What do reckon to the "Super Casino" plans by the Government?

What do you think of it perhaps going to Blackpool, or infact anywhere?

Im against it, from all angles. I know we have some gamblers in here, so I know theres going to be loads of supporters, but I think its not only a bad idea, but a terrible idea for the country longterm and a rather odd decision by a so called 'labour' party!.

Let me know your thoughts.....

Cassino's make me sick. I just watch all those £20 notes go down the slots, and they could have given them to me, instead of wasting it...

There is a casino accross the road from where I work. Me and me work chums go in for breckie after work. And there is loads of guys there...who are blatantly addicted to gambling.

They're not fun in my eyes, if the nice big shiny casino is standing there costing lots of money...I don't think that the chances are you'll win. I don't think they should be illegal, but, I don't think the government should be backing it. It'd be like a government run tobacco farm.

What do the government get out of this Sirrius???

I don't see a problem with it at all. I'd imagine that Blackpool will win it, and it's not like there's no casino's there already. I know of three, and I'm sure there's loads more.

The novelty would soon wear off with the locals - well, those who could be arsed going, and the whole of Blackpool would make a killing of all the tourists.

There was some daft cow on Radio 2 today harping on about how it would lead to big increases in crime because more people would get addicted... Bullshit. I'd bet there are more people who throw their money away using online casinos, coz it's easier and you don't fell like you're spending real money.

It definitely has it's pros (if done correctly) and cons.

I personally would have liked to seen this done in Morecambe (yes Morecambe). The place could do with a pick me up to say the least.

Wherever it is it should be done in an upmarket style. Not some tacky shite, which Blackpool will probably excell in if it gets it.

As for Labour Sirius, they're just the Tory's rebadged aren't they, something Tony did to get them power, which sort of defeats the object IMO.

@ Lozzie, Im not sure to be honest. Id have a guess at:

a) Power, laws, rules, legislation that can later be abused for other things.

b) Billions in Labour Party funds by business/backers, plus taxes and whatever from the places themselves.

c) A temporary jobs boost to boost thier figures. (Building work, more immigrants people no doubt to cover thier arses on that score, service industry jobs etc, ie making the rest of the country a cess pit like London which they think is so marvellous)

c) They can claim they have 'invested' in the area to 'relieve poverty and deprivation' and all that shite, even though its all a load of bollox in real terms. Much like in my area they are pulling down two or three high schools and building a new big one, saying they are spending billions on 'improved education' inthe area - but the existing buildings are fine, and buildings dont teach knowledge!!!!. Just that type of bullcrap that is merely slight of hand and a side step from really dealing with problems.

d) They want to make the country a 'fairground of the world', seeing as we are on our arse in REAL work and jobs, such as manufacturing, science, technology.

e) I dont know, but like you say, its extremely odd for the government to be backing Gambling in this way.

@ ILP, I fully agreed with that bird on Radio 2, and I wanted to smack that arrogant tw@t John McCririck or who ever it was. Yes, Online gambling is a problem, but that doesnt mean to say we need the government to join in the problem!.

@ Jonno, the Labour party now make me sick. They are the absolute toads and scum of the earth, and this labour government has ridden roughshot over our liberties and freedoms and wrote more laws in the last 8 years than the last 150 years combined!. Yeah, the Labour party are the Tories rebadged in some ways, and dont represent its original principles or working man by a long chalk. I cant believe I used to vote these people  . Ignorance is indeed bliss.

I dont know what the hell they think they are doing :S

As has been said, there are many Pros and Cons (no pun) to these plans...

What surprises me, is that it's any kind of a priority...

Surely, given the current sorry state of political affairs in this country Blair & his mates could find something more worthwhile to spend their time on... or maybe not.

There has got to be a hidden agenda here, otherwise why are they bothering with this at the expense of schools/NHS/immigration/energy & all the other issues that people really care about. I can't believe they see it as a votewinner (as a % there can't be THAT many peeps who love the idea), so the only other reason I can see they'd do it for is £... There's probably all sorts of backhanders flying about from the entertainment firms... Let's face it, casinos & the likes are just a licence to print money.

Im actually for it. The current crop of casinos we have in this country are mostly dodgy places. And casinos are not just about slots either. I love a game of poker me and it would be nice to be able to go out in a decent controlled environment to have a game of poker, at the moment there are very few places you can do this.

Ive been to Las Vegas a few times now and had a great time, so im for it

Im not addicted to gambling, I hardly play and when I do its usually for very very small amounts

Bring em on I say. I do struggle to see how they'll do any good though. Given that they require serious local funds to keep going I'm somewhat astounded that they should pick run down places to put them. For some freaky reason we've had two casinos near where I live for years.

I suppose there's pros and cons to having them in your area and i'm not really bothered either way.

They don't appeal to me - after staying in a top casino for a few nights in Nevada and seeing how cold everybody seemed in there - including all the employees who all looked tired and robotic.

I'd rather spend my money doing fun stuff.

Just noticed the end of the message had disappeared..

For some freaky reason we've had two casinos near where I live for years. Yet Norwich / Cambridge, decent places with plenty of wealth have none.
