A friend of mine rang today and said he has been sent a letter from his isp,BT.

The letter is in regards to him downloading illigal files from emule.

Paramount pictures have sent this onto bt for them to get a response from him.

Tells him ip date file was downloaded name of the film,in this case skool of rock.

Now my m8 dont download that much stuff at all really maybee a gig or 2 a week.

So not sure as to weather he was unlucky or what, but the fact that this film was in a cam version thing from the cinema probs makes it more on top,to say he had of downloaded a dvd rip of something,as u are allowed to have these for 24 hours if u dont have the orignal source file.

Morale of teh story kids is dont get complacent thnking oh its fine to download this that and the other no one ever gets nicked for it.

Holy shit.

Thats bad news innit, its finally happening. How the hell can they find out what youve been downloading?.......is it only the film and music industry after thier own particular things or are they passing on details of all software/files you are pulling down to the authorities?.
I wouldnt be too happy for my mum to be opening a letter from BT saying Ive been downloading 'Lesbian Lust Fest 12 dvd' or sommet. :$  .

Im REALLY shitting it now, I use Overnet program, which is e-donkey and emule based, so Im totally goosed.

So this letter your m8 got - what exactly did it ask him to do? Is he getting warned, or proper bollocked? Where does it go from there?

Cheers

Sirius.

Yeah, lol. How do you explain away an mpeg of a woman and a goat? Errm hang on a minute...Im laughing - but did I? lol.

Ive been doing some research this morning, after my heart has been in my mouth since........apparently those who use newsgroups and irc and other non mainsteam methods are next on the adjenda - the technology and government funding is there and working already. But as usual, methods are being explored to stop the snooping.
The peer2peers are being targetted first becuase most net users dont know how to operate anything else, but there are apparently FBI spiders, CCS spiders etc allover the bleeding place - collecting up on keywords - just like with landline phonecalls.

Also, they go off filesizes too, so its not just a case of thinking you can get away with it because you only get one or two movies - they log type, size and name.

Apparently old files which are out of print are being allowed to be shared in America, so at least thats something.

Ftp's are the way to go.......but they are like rocking horse poop.....

Im ditching my overnet once the current list has expired, its not worth the risk.

btw, ste, Bit Torrent is apparently an easy one for them to collect info and persecute on (from what Ive read this morning).

I just piss me sen at everyone gettin dead parinoid about it. I love reading all the posts at Zeropaid Forums from the Yanks who are absolutly cacking their pants if they have one tune on their hard drive:rofl:

It's more yer hardcore pirates that they are after anyway.

Here's a bit of a story I've just read anyway.

A new copyright law designed to curb the unauthorized exchange of music, film and software on the Internet went into effect in Britain on Friday, reigniting the debate on the proper way to tackle rampant digital piracy.

The law, known as the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003, was drafted by the U.K.'s Patent Office. It is modeled on the controversial European Union Copyright Directive, broad legislation designed to protect content makers from the growing phenomenon of digital piracy that has ravaged media and software companies.

Content makers have sought harsh penalties for downloading copyrighted materials from Internet file-sharing networks such as Kazaa or for burning songs onto blank compact discs, saying it is a form of theft.

The rest of its 'ere.

Happy Crapping of Pants Peeps!!!

From what i can tell the letter is asking him to explain his actions within 2 weeks.

His internet will be cut off if he dosnt respond.

As i said b 4 i think they are mainly clamping down on the downloading of films which are still in the cinema as there is no way u could own the right of having that file, unlike if u had a dvd backup of your original source.

On the emule side of things they could set to max sources and get ip of people who have the file sharing it ,all they need is a snippet of the file apparently and they can tell what it is.

U can block out all the ips of the companys that scan it but ive heard of people still been caught.

I wouldn't worry too much mate. Its a scare tatic, the worst that can happen is that your ISP account is closed. You just open up another one :)

There's a lot of shite at the moment and you'll find the ISP's will start fighting back soon as they are in America:

http://www.bayarea.com/mld/siliconvalley/business/columnists/gmsv/6434425.htm

The trick is not to share some of the things you download. For example, if you download "Matrix Revolutions" then don't share it and you will be ok.

sirius, you need to chill mate...you're paranoid of everything you do on the net..why do you bother if you're so worried about it?

lol, what are they going to do, jail everyone with a broadband connection, cause i'm sure 99% of them have downloaded something illegal.
