Finally got down to Melody house Blackpool yesterday was in the area and thought i'd check it out. After you got over the bad attitudes especially about not being able to play the records yourself. You find that they do have quite an extensive collection.
However I was shocked by the prices, £15 quid for a second hand copy of a Knights of the turntables seems to be the going rate. After searching through most of the tunes I found a mint copy of Liquid Sweet Harmony on XL for £20 I was well chuffed with this as I have been searching for it for ages. Also picked up Bizzare Inc Playing With Knives The Climax for £30 quid and I have a feeling I was
stung on this anyone know how much its worth?

Overall I'd say Melody House has the best selection of Old School Tunes In the Northwest I've seen definatly worth a look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

dont wanna pee on your bonfire or anythin but u can get them off ebay for £5 - £10 no probs

Bonfires been extinguished.
Thing is tho you can't allways trust the people on ebay.
Can't say i've ever used it myself but you hear some dodgy stories.

i know what u mean that youve heard dodgy stories but trust me on this you'll like it, also if you search a few online stores then those 2 tunes will come up for my suggested price, hope this helps:thumbsup:

Also everyone knows melody house are robbers virtually, i mean £15 for a second hand nights lol They only cost 9 or 10 quid brand new:eek:

The knights didnt say 'as played by Andy P' did they, LOL accounting for the price hike :|

The Sweet Harmony track i can see at that price if its the 92 release in original cover as it does go for that even on ebay and its collected by Piano House heads and Old Skool hardcore heads, so its a crossover tune and therefore more people want it (even if it has been played to death).

However the Bizzare inc one sounds a bit on the pricey side

Theres a copy of the climax on an Italian Import on flying records id pay £15ish for as a collector, but im assuming the release was the vinyl solution (which is the original label, but got a massive release) which as peeps say does turn up on ebay for £5 - £10

I dont mind Melody House charging high prices like £40 if the tune is genuinely rare (Mister x - Round Here / Joy Salinas - People Talk), maybe only available on import, but its deffo not the place to buy average tunes from :eyebrow:

Im still yet to visit, but am gonna get down there just to see if they do know there tunes

Now you mention some of the originals did have as played by and Massive Zone tune written on em!!!

Not the Knights tho some of them said discontinued which wasn't true cos I can still get hold of em at the local reccy shop.

Your right tho £15 for a second hand knights is unheard of:S

peeps
phil is spot on just gotta say that.definitely not got an attitude problem,i think he's a quiet bloke really and doesn't wanna offend anyone that's why he'd wanna finish the fone conversation first before he spoke to ya.
anyway,to wait five mins wouldn't be so bad at least you'd have a chance to browse through the oldskool/retro porn classics on display :hubba:

he does know his tunes, from all the diffo genres of dance, anything i don't know i ask him first.
if it's zone related of piano stuff then he is the one to ask.

the prices can be pricey as sometimes he's selling em for someone else and they give a price and then he puts his bit on top.if you're lucky then you can get stuff from ebay/gemm or abroad for less than a fiver but i reckon there must be that many people looking for oldskool these days that even these resources will dry up eventually...

Yeah, Id go along with that. I didnt know he was selling other's stuff too.

I wasnt trying to suggest he was totally :ba:, lol. Just in comparison to some other outlets its not exactly a customer service hotspot! lol. Perhaps its just me, but theres an odd vibe in there sometimes. But as I say , perhaps it is me, Im sensitive that way about my surrounding atmosphere :he she: . :)

Its hard to get the balance, I couldnt do it. I also hate it when I go into ANY type of shop and get pounced on or interrogated after 3 minutes, but I also like a bit of encouragement to show me they actually want to sell something. Im sure you know what I mean.

Sirius.

ive never had a problem at melody house either, ive been shopping there over 7 years, always pulls the best rare tunes out,i.ds anything i take in,sit and have a brew n a chat, take advise and info given to me,phils one sound fella,if you dont like the prices, simply find the tune else where, thats if you can find em.

a tunes only worth what ud pay for it.
if you dont like it,simply dont go in.

I Still think he could do the place up a bit though, perhaps a big new worktop counter with a few self service decks/headphones, new carpet (if that horrid brown stuff is still there), perhaps a low level suspended panel chequered ceiling with new flourescent lights and a general spruce up......

He could definatly do with doing the place up a bit I mean with the price of the vinyl!!!! That carpet was shocking it looked almost antique brown in colour although that was probably just the dirt!!!

When I went in this women was in obviously working there and I tell you now she didn't have a clue, she could barley switch the decks on when I took my records to the front counter to be played. I had to keep shouting at her to move it on otherwise I'd have been there all day. Self service decks are definatly the way to go.

my one and only visit...

I went about 6 years ago when i was at uni......THE PRICES ARE DEFINATELY NOT FOR STUDENTS WILL BE MY ONLY COMMENT....

THE CONFLICTING STORIES ABOUT PHILS FRIENDLINESS/CUSTOMER SERVICES IS STANDARD COUNTRYWIDE, A LOT OF SHOPS LOOK AT YOU LIKE YOUR SHIT FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE THEY EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE YOU. I'VE STOPPED GOING TO THEM, NOW ALL MY REGULAR RECORD SHOPS MAKE ME BREWS, GIVE ME DISCOUNTS ETC. THE ONLY PLACE THAT DOESN'T IS VINYL EXCHANGE BUT I KNOW MOST OF THEM NOW SO HAVE OCASSIONAL CHATS.

I THINK MOST OF IT IS SNOBBERY THAT THEY KNOW THEIR TUNES AND THEY THINK YOU DON'T.....AFTER A BIT THEY REALISE THAT YOU DO AND THEN HEY PRESTO...YOUR IN THE BACK ROOM FLICKING THROUGH A PILE OF A THOUSAND ITALIAN STAMPS HE'S JUST RECEIVED....

I THINK THOUGH THE THING THAT REALLY PISSES ME OFF ABOUT RECORD SHOPPING IS WHEN THEY WON'T LET YOU LISTEN TO THE TUNES BY YOURSELF.........
