Now then,

I have shopped at Melody House for ten years and whilst the decor isn't fantastic, the tunage is tops and that's what counts when your shopping for tunes. Phil knows his stuff and Debbie does also, spent many a pay packet in there and have to thank both Phil & Debbie for contribuitng to my record collection.

Alas, the times have changed and inflation has risen, etc etc, so shopping for Italian is not a cheap past time anymore or ever was, but the satisfaction and buzz is exactly the same, regardless of the price. You can't beat a cheap belter purchase though!!!!!

D-Inspiration - Keep me going on

Fella,

How much did you pay for the above? and is it on Italian Style, if you don't mind me asking that is!

Cheers

Scott

I've not been in Melody House for donkeys years - 1991 was the last time I think I drove all the way from Halifax on me own on a monday night (with no car stereo  ) to buy the OUT release of Selector.

Don't know if Phil was there then I don't remember him - it was Debbie I knew and a bird who used to go to Love Shack who worked there. I cant remember what I paid - the same as you paid everywhere else for an import I suppose (6 quid or summat). Thats just it though init, times have moved on..

Everyones comments about the state of the premises are probably right - but the same can be said for a lot of shops. With the internet taking over the retail sector any shop owner is gonna be reluctant to invest in a refit, and long term lease holders have gotta be considering terminating. LOL I bet it feks Phil off a lot more than his customers he's gotta work there :D

As I say I dont remember the guy but from what I've heard he does know his stuff  I suppose it's what you're looking for when you go shopping init - I'm not interested in sitting having brews and stuff I just want a shop keep knows his product inside out should I have a query.

The clique bit that goes on in some shops also dont bother me - sounds like it does you though sirius and I can quite understand it. Record shops were notoriously bad for it - arsey bastards sat drinking tea at the counter looking down at you cause knowing the owner must mean they know their tunes LMAO Sounds like that needs sortin though cause it will loose em custom its one of the reasons buying music has been one of the first to hit the internet.

Book shops (apparently) had the same problem :|

Prices, well we could debate them forever init. I'm an internet buyer so I usually buy cheap, but I can remember the attraction of seeing, hearing and inspecting a tune before walking out a few minutes later with it. When you've been sent the wrong one 3 times you start to have fond memories of ye olde worlde shop :S Theres an overhead though that you dont have with the net lolol someones gotta pay for that brown carpet :D

I don't mind me I either pay it or I dont. What does get on me tits is time wasters (folk who say they sell stuff cheap and then dont and folk who claim they can get stuff they cant grrrrr  ) From what I can gather Melody House don't claim to be a bargain basement type outfit - they specialise in sought after vinyl and their prices reflect that. Some peeps like to shop round for a bargain init and some folks prefer to just go buy it with no risk or hassle.

End of the day Phil is there cause of his tune knowledge :king: not his customer service skills :condom: lolol can't blame him for not wanting peeps to touch em with their clumsy, greasy fingers - before they say they dont want it :ba: Someone's gonna have to pay a lot of money for that heheh :D

the shop keeps who make me brews, don't know their products (and i'm glad they don't) Thats the main fun for me.....I can honestly say having collected old skool for 10 years I do know my stuff so I don't want record shops advice.

I'd rather go in a shop with hundreds (well thousands) of 12" where most are absolute crap....THEY ALL SELL FOR 50P OR A £1 AND YOU'LL FIND BETWEEN 10 & 50 TUNES YOU WANT....

i THINK THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT PHIL KNOWS HIS TUNES AND HAS HIGH PRICES BECAUSE HE KNOWS IF HE WAITS LONG ENOUGH SOMEONE WILL WALK IN AND TAKE IT (EVEN IF THEY SPEND MOST OF THEIR SALARY  )

I PREFER TO BUY IN CHEAP SHOP BECAUSE ITS MORE SPECIAL FINDING THAT ELUSIVE TUNE......

SO FAR THIS YEAR I'VE BOUGHT.

SONS LOOP DA LOOP "FAR OUT" FOR 50P
DJ MBG "TRANCE WAVE ONE" (SASHA REN1) FOR £1
MIMMO MIX "CHAINS" FOR 30P
LOVEBASE "SOMETHING UNREAL" FOR £1
PLUS COUNTLESS AMOUNTS OF TUNES THAT VINYL EXCHANGE WOULD SELL FOR BETWEEN £5 & £10 IN THEIR CLASSICS SECTION

Yeah, looking back, Ive tended to go over and over things. Thats simply solved though via a delete button. Im best keeping my sneck out I reckon and be totally sat on the fence.

At the end of the day, its a strange and dilapidated northern record store renouned for Zone and associated prices, a shop that some find fantastic and others are not fussed either way about. Nothing spectacular, but nothing unspectacular either. I would both recommend going, and not bothering at the same time. Id also like to say its pricey, yet amazingly cheap too.

Thats feels better now :).

See ya

Sirius.
