Zone@Maximes = Crap

Hiya,

Been to Maximes a couple of weeks ago and I cant help feeling that the Zone is now a pale shadow of its former self?

None of its own DJ's…..a music policy that isn't unique like Zone used to be. Just heard all the type of tunes that you hear on the radio and the dancefloor was half empty by 2am.

Zone used to be one on its own with its music style but now is a bland and boring night out that plays the same music as everywhere else.

I reckon they should drop the Zone name to stop it from being tainted from the rest of todays commercial rubbish.

Its just a shame that this once former brilliant night and place has gone down the pan.

Please stop this downward spiral of Zone destruction!!!!

Yours,

Taylor

your not wrong!

I gave up on that place a while back!, if you wanna good night go to the Melody House Nights @ Alive in halifax where there is a 2nd room which is devoted to the sounds of mid nineties italian classics.

Also Kinetik @ club one eleven in blackpool every saturday plays those old italian tunes.

All the best..................Kev :phones: :phones: :phones:

At the end of the day it was the choice between Zone still being around or not .

90 people in a club every month will not survive anywhere and if the dj's are not willing to try and do something about it then i'm sorry but they have to go it's as simple as that and they all had a chance to try and turn things around.

So Zone had to move on to survive and some people don't like that , unfortunate but the reality is is that the people did not come to the nights when they were playing the Italian classics thats why the situation is as it is, if people had been there we would not be having this conversation.

The Zone vibe has not been completely binned I for one play a mix of stuff when I play the zone nights as does Andy P and others.

It's not that Zone wanted to move on in reality they had to because the people stopped going to listen to the orginal italian classics and that's the punters fault no one elses ..

If you were not supporting the night month in month out I don't think your in a position to say diddly squat now it's too late .

Everyone has got a point i reckon but thats what it all boils down to, your own opinion!

I dont go to The Zone every month, this isn't due to the change of style but due to other factors. I do go whenever i can and to be honest i'm just glad that there is a Zone to go to as in my opinion it nearly went to the wall in the late 90's. I'm sure others would disagree with me about this, but thats great...its what a message board is all about!

Its also great to see other new nights popping up everywhere, non so pleasing as the nights in Blackpool as this brings back a lot of happy memories for me and a lot of others who were around back in the day (both Zone and non-Zone)

I dont think Debbie or Andy would ever give up the Italian vibe anyway as its been part of their lives for the last 11 years.

Also, the Cricketer in Wigan is now the best place to go and this is mainly because they regularly play the more older italian style tunes and have 2 wicked MC's in Efeeze and AV-E (with occasional visits from the one and only Wizard MC)

But why is the Back To The Old Skool nights @ Maximes the most popular night of the month then?

its always (well as far as i can remember) been the most popular night. its diffrent music than zone how it used to be tho (altho sum was the same). promoters make decisions based on how many people r in the club, if there aint many people in then they change it slightly till they get more people in what a minority of people may like the majority of people may not and its a case of not bein able to please everyone innit. i highly doubt that if the club would have been busy and it was doin well then the zone promotion team would have changed the music policy coz thats kinda shootin yaself in the foot.

o n i also give out my gruds on the back to the old skool night lol :)

I'm sure it's a very good night , different people like different music .

Glad you have found somewhere to go instead of the Zone nights ..

Judging by the amount of people on this forum that go on about the old italian tunes sayin how good they are, it seems to me that it's still quite popular.

It's just a shame that the club that made italian so popular in the north west has completely turned its back on it for a more commercial style! Fair enough Zone is a company and needs to make money but to loose it's individualality completley is a crying shame

One last thing, when everyone talks about zone tunes it's always the mid 90's classics which there on about. Some how i can't see tunes like castles in the sky/alice dj and shootin star being tagged as Zone classics!!!!!!!!!! Maybe they should look for a new individual style again.

That's just my opinion anyway i hope no one takes offence!

All the best.............Kev

I'd rather be capped in the head than listen to flip & fill ...lol sod it i'm just glad i have the music i have today don't really care if its played in a club or not. But i would prefer it not being called Zone if the tunes are like flip & fill. I havent been myself so i don't know.

I think if u opened a club in the very north being "cumbria" and played the more euro italian stuff it would do very well loads of people i've spoken to love it and also the Sunday nights at fusion in workington on the oldskool night are meant to be very succesful.

It's just a shame nights out are more about making money these days than havin a good time.

Well said Jamie

I played an hour of pure classics at Kinentik in Blackpool on saturday, and judging by the crowd reaction it went down very well :D

But, i reckon a full night of italian being played week in week out would'nt be a good idea as musical taste's vary, but a 50/50 mix of new and old seems to work well in the other clubs i go to.

I think you'll find that Zone has always played whatever was current at the time plus some old skool classics. This is still the way today.
The last tracks which Kev mentioned ie Alice deejay etc were obviously popular about 2 years ago , but no longer get played .Current big tracks which are aired are Superstar ,Cheeky Trax, 4 o'clock in the Morning,10 Revolutions, Boozy Woozy etc.
There is and always will be a blend of trax like Cast a Spell, Hard Players,Bombscare ,JK - Beat it ,Poppers -Every little Time , Monster Jam,Jinny- Keep it Warm ,etc.
Perhaps people whose mates used to DJ should get there head from up there mates arse and realise that they are generally the ones in the minority.
If it was the case that what they liked was so popular , then how come they don't have their own clubs or put on nights which were rammed .
I can just see the scenario in front of the Bank Manager on Monday mornings " OK sir we lost £2500.00 but the 90 people who came loved it".
It don't pay the bills does it.
All nights we run are trying to cater for all tastes , not just a chosen few.You can't please all the people all the time.
And if you don't like it you're welcome to try your own night.
As for C!!!!!!!rs , do me a favour mate it only holds 150 people, it's a Youth Club not a Nightclub. And believe it or not some people actually go out to listen to MUSIC !.
Cheers

Dont the "Room" type venues work best in this type of situation?. Im no expert and could be talking out my arse, but years ago at (ashamedly) Peppermint Palace (when it turned into its first reincarnation after that) used to have 3 rooms.

Room 1 *the MAIN area* was for your shite cheese and punters who couldnt give a fook about what was played as long as they could get pissed and try and shag the bird next to him on the dancefloor. This is what they must have seen as being the *main* punter volume for that area as it was the biggest bit.

Room 2 was More of the olderskool variety with the occasional new tune/deeper 'more specialised' house thrown in for the oldskoolers and newcomers to hear something different to the pop club music if they wanted to........

Room 3 was errrm I dont remember (as I was always in room 2!)

When there was a 'special' promotion night on, the rooms would get switched about so say the Old Skool bit was in the *main* bit as thats the desired punters for the night and for those who werent really into it could dissapear into the cheesier popier rooms...

I must agree that its a shame that stuff being banded about as Zone is now just yer average poncy nightclub tackle, because thats was what made the Zone a winner in someways because it didnt follow like sheep and was a truely unique night to go to.

Everybody has theyre era. I think zone lost the plot after mid 1994, some say "well it wasnt as good as 97" or sommet, but that was in the majority 'a bag of toss' to me by then anyway.

You cant blame Zone for punters not coming if they are fed up of italian tunes, but on the other side of the coin Zone should perhaps remember what made it special in the first place which is INDIVIDUALITY from the other clubs down the road etc.

I have never been to maximes, so I dont know the layout, but rooms used to work pretty well as far as Im concerned as a punter at Blackburn all those years ago. I didnt want pop club music so I dissapeared into a more deeper house/oldskool area instead :).

Buttys right too, Im getting sick of hearing about Zone on here. Its not the be all and end all of the scene..........

Sirius.
