rat riddled smell pot, mental buisness rates, lease hire is prob gunna expire v soon and then all you have is some shit records and posters of soap dodgers...if it was such a great deal...wouldn't be on flea bay.

Dave's Guide To Cockney Record Shop Slang.

Unique/once in a Lifetime = never ever ever never at all ever.
High Fidelity Life = hunger, pain, stress, poverty, grief.
Rock 'n Roll Lifestyle = smelly, hanging, minging, irritable bowelishness, bolabola virus.
Interesting People/Swinging London = tramps, dossers, wierdo's, thieves, religious nutjobs, heshe's wearing terd-splattered leggings and perverts.
Alladins Cave of Musical Gems = pile of worthless shit from the 80's and some Pulp.
Groovin', Pulsing History Steeped In It's Very Walls = cum soaked back alley that honks of piss and crack.

If yours at the stage of life when you've gone mental, have too much cash, aspire to be smelly, rife, friend free and ill, you want to be surrounded by mould, damp, spent johnnies and used needles...then why not give a bloke who has been trying 50 years to make it work £THREE HUNDRED FUCKING GRAND...just around the corner from Dog Shit Alley.
Have a brain transplant and become a muppet.

Hahaha classic and probably not far from the truth, Dave

Well spotted Ed, i've never seen a record shop for sale before.

Always sad to see my old vinyl stomping grounds go (although I don't recall ever going in this one), but that doesn't look like much of a life to me in that cave every working day of your life. I'd definitely pop in there if i'm passing and have a rummage through the racks, but more than a hour or 2 and i'd probably be wanting to get back out into daylight, or within minutes if there's nothing much of interest to me.

I don't think there are any record shops within 10 miles of where I live now. There is a shop in Stockton that specialises in vinyl called 'Sound It Out' which featured in a documentary a few years ago that still seems to do reasonable business. That was the reason I posted this to be honest, as it is likely that another shop that has clearly been trading for a long time will more than likely disappear. Of course the price is ridiculous, but you can't blame the guy for trying. He's obviously invested alot of his time and energy into keeping it going for so long. Reading reviews of the shop it seems that it local people have a fondness for it, but as the guy says in the Ebay listing 'If you don't need to make lots of money' is the key element of real life record shop these days. Fair play to those who do though as I reckon alot of it is for the love. Ed

fuck me!! running a record shop with no financial worries sounds ace to me. Better than sitting in an orifice all day dealing with the petty bull shit and bureaucratic management.

Open when you want, sell what you want... smoke reefa and spin vinyl all day..

The geezer in town that runs 'betterdaze' used to be old bill but now spends his time flogging quality vinyl with a smile on his face.

I remember seeing a story on BBC news about his shop. He does the Juke box rentals doesn't he. Pretty entrepreneurial to offer preloaded Juke boxes with original 45s and i can't say i've heard of anyone else doing it. Looks like a major undertaking, but he looks to be doing OK.

I don't think people put things like this on Ebay expecting to sell them quickly (although I'm sure he'd take the £300,000 were it offered). It's a bit like the guy who had the Andy warhol sketches a while back. By putting a listing on Ebay, it shows up in Google searches and before you know it there's an article in NME, the Guardian etc and creates massive exposure and the best possible free advertising imagineable. Nice rant by the way Dave ha ha, was quite amusing. Ed

Im sure his valuation is miles out unless he owns the freehold for the shop. I know somebody who would sell their business for circa £15,000 including circa 30,000 records, very cheap leasehold on warehouse and client list.

Im sure its not all its cracked up to be!
