Digital Voices Does anyone know if there is a software plug-in to turn normal voices into digital voices (you know, sounds like Stephen Hawking). If there is then I'm guessing you just record what you say into the mic, then run it through the plug-in ???????? Is this how it's done ? and if so does anyone know which plug-in I need and what software it's compatible with. I've got Sony Soundforge, Sony Acid Pro 5 and Ableton 5.0 Live so surely it'll work with one of those (if it is actually software that I need and not hardware.lol) Cheers for any help, Robbie

Two other options would be a vocoder or a text to speech program. I used to have a text to speech program, it was ok for some things, but just didn't flow very well.

I wish I had something that could do the "captain blood" style digital voice. That one, which was developed for the BBC Micro in the 80's (as far as I know it was anyway), was one of the best speech simulation ever created given the era it was made. Unfortunately Ive never found one as a VSTi, but I suppose I havent looked for a fair while. Sirius

| As BJ and Sirius have said previously a vocooder or text2speech software may get you the results you want. If you use the Text2speak software get it to say individual words rather than sentances then assemble them together to get what you want. This help a little get rid of the crap pronounciation some of these programs have. Alternativly find yourselve an old Texas Instrumnets Speak and Spell from a charity shop, ebay or booty. They are worth a fair bit to some producers believe it or not lol. There is a software version but i havent personally used it,could be fun.Speak n Spell ![]()

If you want robotised voices, thats a bit hard to achieve tbh. If you just want to create your own vocals, I will let you into little secret..... I havent tried it (yet) myself, but this looks the dogs bollox for all budding musicians out there. Vocaloid heres a demo song: http://www.zero-g.co.uk/media/mp3/LO...eet_Dreams.mp3 Bear in mind that this was totally typed in and then tweaked to tune/musical notes etc........ Fan-fooking tastic I think. Not robotised though, but that isnt Vocaloids plan! Sirius

If memory serves me right i think Fruity Loops has a vocoder that you can type into as well...

Another option is to get your hands on a cheap ZX spectrum and a currah microspeech interface - it perfromed brilliantly at creating vocoded vocals! Andy

Are there any none vocoder hardware alternatives (too expensive)? What did the old electro artists use, did they use a vocoder? ![]()

As far as I understand, a vocoder won't make a human voice sound like Stephen Hawking. It only enables you to "tune" the incoming audio signal (vocal, guitar or whatever) to the notes played on a MIDI keyboard. You need some propper speech synthesis software to sound like Mr Hawking. If anyone still has an Amiga 500 with a copy of Workbench, then there is an excellent text-to-speech function on that.
