Cubase help req'd

I need some help with this......

Im trying to find an old tune out and re-edit it in cubase.....now, (until I find the parts on old cd's) I wanted to see how I would do it in the program, so Ive tried some test samples out.

Something wierd is going on.....

I have an audio file at 135bpm which Ive played, and it plays back at 135bpm when I open it in media player. I have a midi track I played (which was used to make the audio sound track), at obviously the same speed of 135bpm.

I start a new Cubase SX3 file and import the midi file beacuse I wanna add some VST instruments alongside existing audio - to 'double up' and beef the existing sound.

However, when I import the audio track, its slowing it down by approximately 10bpm and changing the pitch accordingly , therefore my VST line will be playing at 135bpm and the (long) audio clip is playing at 125bpm approx, and ofcourse the timing is allover the place, they kick off at different times from the 1.1.1.0 position.

Ive tried the same loading in Cakewalk Sonar, and the things line up and match up, and Ive tried in in Ableton Live 5 but every time I load a VSTi it crashes. I dont wanna use Sonar, I wanna use Cubase.

This is really pecking my head! I cant explain how its automatically slowing audio down by 10bpm!!!!!! The same file in my windows media player is fine!, the Cubase tempo is set properly, so I dont get whats going on . It does it everytime, and Ive tried other midi files and audio clips.

Anybody any ideas?

Cheers

Sirius

Hmmmmm

Cannot see what the problem should be here.

Try importing it as a .wav file.

Try and make your source file a wave file or convert it to wave outside of cubase and then import.

The way you are currently doing it means Cubase SX is converting the MP3 and importing - if there is something going wrong in the conversion as least this way it is cutting that stage out.

If SX fucks up the basic importing of a wave file then we are deep in it.

Cheers bud, but heres the situation:

If I load ANY long track as a .wav file into Cubase SX3, its the wrong speed. .

I recorded a record into cooledit, which I know the speed of, saved it as a wav file, started a new cubase project, set the tempo to the speed I know the tunes at, and then imported an Audio file from the "file" pulldown menu. Its slower, and lower in pitch like you would get on the decks if you went -8%.

This eliminates any midi problems, reason problems, or anything else Im doing.

Wierd eh.

The samples I want to remix are 32bit 48,000mhz or whatever PCM WAV files. Im currently copying them to another directory and trying to batch process them in CoolEdit to 44.1 16 bit to see if that makes a difference.

Its really bizzare.

Sirius.

I never record at anything other than 16 bit / 44khz (the old standard DAT settings)

I'd say thats the problem, difference in formats could be making it play slower.

That could be your problem, using a different bit rate

im guessin you're usin a cracked copy?
do it this way, record the track in cubase, therefore the track will be the same speed and pitch,
you already know the tempo an all,
shouldnt give you any hassle

Usually these problems are down to the Audio files sample rate as said by others
Id try and resample at the sample rate u have your track at and then see what happens. You can check your sample rate settings in Cubase preferences. Personally unless you are working on pro end gear id keep at 44khz as Jammer said its the norm for audio.

Yes it is the sample rate! How bizzare how it just plays perfectly fine but slower!

The thing I want to be doing is supposed to be 'pro end' of the scale (lol, dont laugh) so thats why I opted for high quality sounds. Well, that simple move has cost me most my weekends free time .

Cheers

Sirius.

you can select project menu bar and then project setup (alternativly just select "Shift and S", this brings up the cubase project settings and adjust your sample rate and record format to 48k etc, you will have to do this on a new project, then import your midi file and they will sync. i have cubase sx 1 but the basic functions should be the same. any other probs feel free to ask mate.
