na, deffo not. My favourite band and I was the town rudeboy. 2 Tone was the first movement where all the bands were dancing about like maddies on the stage though. It seems strange now to look back at old videos of the concerts of Madness, Selecter, Specials and Bad Manners and compare them to bands today for stage energy.

Seen the Specials twice this tour already and will see them again next week and then again in November. They fucking nailed it at glasto as well.

Without punk there would not have been a Specials as we know them.

There's been high energy parties drawing a youth following well before The Specials. I think the prime factor in the second coming of love was the easy supply of the new drug ecstasy, combined with the pulsating rhythm of house music.

I doubt The Specials invented drugs or house music and I doubt The Specials had much impact on what was happening in New York then later Detroit (techno) later still Chicago (house), Belgium (new beat), Italy etc
