Decent software for Volume levelling MP3's?

Does anyone know of any decent software for volume levelling large numbers of MP3's at once (i.e. few thousand)?

My oldskool collection of MP3's has a fair few tunes which are much louder (or quieter) than the others, and it is annoying to have to manually turn the amp/stereo down. I tried a free one called "MP3 gain" but it didn't seem to work. The free one in ITunes is garbage as well......

I also tried Audacity which is good for individual tunes, but seems to require massive amounts of memory (up to 100's of GB) for important batches of tunes

Any ideas much appreciated!

What are the best settings to use if you only want to batch normalise old skool tunes, rather than all different genres?

The only problem I have with MP3gain is that it can sometimes not adjust the volume correctly.

For example, if a tune is 87db. You can set the target as 95, sometimes it will go to only 93.4 where another might go to 95.6 and that one would miles louder!

Not really sure why MP3Gain doesn't seem to work that well. I've noticed that the problem of volume differences seems to be worse/amplified on the IPOD than actually on Itunes on the PC. Strange

There also appears to be another software programme called mp3gain-pro, which seems to be able to change the volume from within the track rather than between tracks as MP3Gain is supposed to do
