Saturday`s Soul Slice

Back to Northern again sorry folks.

US star and (unsung) northern soul hero and godfather reworked by Ian Levine (one of the few decent ones he ever did).

Note the video was shot on Fleetwood Promenade - you can make out the Sea Cadet base and the Marine Hall - why? I have no idea other than he did appear at one of the Fleetwood Soul Weekenders years ago. Piss poor shoot though - cars driving down Marine Parade are not the ideal video background.

Enjoy the vibe and a classic northern tune though.

Awesome awesome record. Nuff respect for posting, you just made my Saturday. Love the strings.

Difficult to top that, but available on a torrent near you is a bunch of motown acapellas. Not decided what to do with them yet, but someone with more time and technical ability can surely do something!

Gonna plump for this beaut today! Class tune. My old man is a proper Northern Anorak and calls this handbag, but balls to that! Slick moves to the vid courtesy of Granada's "This England" Show. Have a look at it for the pure innocence of some of the people interviewed "Dad can I go to the Casino?". Don't think similar conversations will go on now about the Pier or Maximes!

Is the vocal Edwin? The backing track on this sounds a bit Jive Bunny if you ask me, although the vocal is excellent.

the bandwagon version is the one I know and love, which comes in about 3 mins on that vid.

Yeah, first one is edwin starrs version, and i love it in it's own right, but as you say, johnny's bandwaggon wins for pure edginess

Find the 12" of Starrs version, if ya can, it works better, if ya can find dexy's, and by fuck its a rare un, it's done more in the bandwaggon stylee
