The world is awash with fake stylus these days mate, could be you bought one of those maybe as i've bought a duff cart before and a duff stylus too

Ive had the same 1200's for years...since 93 with 2nd set 95 so i know how to make them last. Copper oxidises and you need to occasionally remove the top layer to make good contact. Sorry wd40 is not correct im thinkng of removing water.

The connections between the deck and mixer does fall apart and results in crackles, loss of sound including bass and trebble leading to dull output.

Right in regards to newby syndrome...your a &^&%_(*^%%)..

Reputable company that so can see them being fake unless anyone else has had problems in the past with them.
Are the short wires connected to the correct terminal sounds daft but could be a simple mistake and worth ruling out that before looking elsewhere.

yes. checked and double checked. unlikely to make that sort of error on 2 shells anyway.

Have you got any mates that have decks,if you can take the shells to theirs and try them see if they are the same.

Yeah could do...
I've also got the old headshells & carts etc. They don't seem to cause this effect, but it's quite difficult to tell because they sound so much quieter.

It's looking like my only option is to remove the tonearms altogether & strip them down which obviously I'm not keen to do. I'll do it though if I have to.
