| Weird thing to Do!!! Just bought a load of Italian tunes from a bargin basement, nothing that rare but a few nice bits that aren't on oggs Strange thing is, who ever owned em before must of played out, but as he/she was spinning em, did't want anyone to ID the tune playin cos they stuck perfecto record labels over the top of one side (perhaps the mix that they played out). Just seems a strange thing to do perhaps it was oaky back in the day LOL) They are all 1990/91 so its the old perfecto label![]() |

Tosser IMHO , If yer gonna play tunes and not let those enjoying em know what they are, you don't deserve to be playin em in the first place Share the knowledge |

| Dunno i kinda see where ya comin from - but in all honesty if id spent some serious time tracking something down then im not so sure id want every man and his dog knowing what it was n goin out and buying it - after all is that not how a dj stays unique! ![]() |

| This sort of thing was commonplace in the Orlando scene. Chris Fortier was notorious for not letting anyone know what he was playing. Absolute tosser!!!

Sorry debs don't agree...you are only up there playin cos the people below you are dancin....if they think your a tosser then you ain't gonna get on I would't see a DJ play out just coz he/she played a rare tune, It would have to be about the vibe, and if the DJ'S a miserable C*nt the vibe would be all wrong for me IMHO Although I say that being someone who would have loved the opportunity to play out at some big nights, so believe me If I had ever been given the chance I would have been as nice as pie and Id and chatted to make sure that I got booked the following week![]() |

| you can still chat - have a crack and play the vibe cant you just cus you cover up the name of one or two records does not a miserable bugger make you ![]() i know how ya feel Sy but i can also see the other side to the arguement also i really cant give you and answer as i have no rare tunes which ive spent yrs looking for and i dont play out! my fella tracked down his greatest want after spending 12 yrs if not longer trying to id the thing then finding it... so from that point of view i could well understand if he played out and didnt want anyone knowing what it was ![]() |

Just my experience of Djs like that were ones that played there tunes, picked up the cheque and fucked off, looking like it was all a hardship. For an aspiring Dj (back in the day), i always thought that if I was in there position I would have milked every bit of it up not been a grumpy bugger![]() |

| It all started way back in the hip hop days, the likes of Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash used to cover up the records they were using as they were playing breaks from stuff they didn't want people to find out what the breaks were. That just progressed through time, most of it daft in a way as you always find out sooner or later what the tune is anyway via another dj, radio show or a mate finding out what it is. |
