although the music policy is not to play so called anthems on the night (such as jinny & asha) to name a few we are also aware that our job is to please the paying public who take there time to come to such events.

i suggest that before future nights, anyone comming should post tunes they would like to hear then we can gauge what flavor the crowd wants on the night & act accordingly to try and please the people there
I wouldnt worry more than 5 seconds, play what you want, thats what most people would have turned up for. Looking at what was played it sounded smart

PS more obscure the better

im with matt on this one. you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all of the time. fair enough, maybe these people complaining/not dancing at this night were either misinformed or naive musically and shouldnt have been there.
from personal experience, playing to more people makes it easier to educate with not the norm tunes. back in the day a certain mister tissera played a set at the empire and had to be dragged off the dex coz he killed and emptied a rockin dancefloor with non anthem trax. playing for himself or what!
imo, music is the answer. doowhatchulike!

Alright dazz this is quoted from the original thread. It might explain the background of the thread a bit more

btw No one took offence at all about the comments on the orig thread, obviously we'd like to take peoples comments on board as obviously any night is nothing without the people

I was trying to explain about how we wanted the music to be, and how we'd discussed at length how we wanted to build the night up to a peak and bring it to a nice happy smiley end we picked the slot to suit the appropriate DJ for what we wanted, and all the DJs spent a while picking suitable tracks.

The reason for this is that when you have a crowd who is particularly into something, like in this case old house / oldskool tunes, then the usual overplayed, commercialised "now thats what i call oldskool" tracks have usually been heard to death and then some, and so we wanted to offer something different from the norm. I dont think a night can work if you play loads of obscure weird shite though, theres nothing worse imo than being in a club really wanting to have it large and crying out for a familiar tune to get you off the seat and on to the dancefloor and .... it never comes.. Im not asking to know every single tune that gets played, just something i know every now n then, something that sounds familar, or maybe the original of something that was later butchered by flip and fill and that donk bouncey shite or whatever its called now lol There are so many other good tunes out there that are beggin' to be cranked loud from a club system and its such a buzz to play something unexpected and it to tear the roof off The crowd we looked to attract was people from OSA and of similar sorta backgrounds, who would appreciate and be more receptive to these sorta tunes which is why we only advertised it on here and the Legends site
the guidelines we set for ourselves and the guest DJs, was roughly..

Classic tunes that dont get the airplay they deserve, good/great/amazing tunes you've not heard played for a while, mixed up with some all time classics that are well appreciated no matter how many times you've heard em All the djs played different styles and the times they were on was picked specifically to make the night flow.

we purposely picked a small venue, the DJs play for free, (well a few beers lol) for the love of the tunes, and wanting to play something a bit different from tunes they have to play when playing at more commercial events. We only advertised it in select few places, and word of mouth via our mates and mates mates etc people we know would be either old enough to remember lots of the tunes anyway lol, people who would know some and keen to know the others, and people who might not know many but be keen to learn what they are. we just think that there is so many other good tunes out there(just look in the mixes section) that its a shame to not give them an airing, especially when its to a crowd who would in the majority, appreciate it we only charge a 5er and thats only so we can cover the cost of the room.(if i could afford to do it for free i would) We use all our own equipment & We're not trying to make any money out of it, just put on a good nite, with good music, with great company, cheap beer, and happy smiley faces
