Obsession with Tunes

Do you reckon/know whether there is similar obsession with tunes in other types of music?

Northern Soul is an obvious one, not sure about others, though people may put me straight

eg) Rock

"What was that tune with the big guitar and screeching vocals that they used to play in Rock World in '93? Would love to get hold of it. Proper tune" Does it happen?

A guy I work with in his early 60's is the bigesst collector of records I know. He's into 50's R&B and is always searching out rare 7inches to add to his collection, that has it's own room in his house.

Moved to music chat hun - in answer to question- i was only having this convo with my dad last night - yeah agree on the northern soul and i think maybe the punk movement generated a lot of collecters - i know a few round here - although its not as big as this granted

I would agree with the RnB thing - and they can sell for very silly money.

Two friends of mine go to record auctions in the USA looking for RnB and northern.

They paid £1250 for an old RnB tune and sold it immediatley they got back for £2500.

They have not yet managed to pay their air fares at least.

Most genres of music have their own collectors - ska/bluebeat is another - but on a smaller scale.

I've been collecting music since about 79/80 when my dad bought me the odd record and I started collecting pop music first, then moved onto hip hop/electro then rock, then house music, then occasionaly drifting between styles until 1991 when I really got into house full time

I'm sure somebody like DJ Shadow has collected a phenominal amount of R&B and other styles to make up his massive collection
