Ha ha...wonder where you got the idea for this thread
Basically i reckon if everyone liked the same sort of music..although it wouldn't necessarily be a terrible thing, there wouldn't be the opportunities to be introduced to tracks from other genres/styles (which I find one of the most interesting elements of the music scene), by other members/music lovers. What i guess i'm trying to say is that everyone liking the same style would obviously restrict the scope of music being listened to, and would make the sound staler, much quicker...tbh though i just use the phrase more as a jokey thing...but there is some reasoning beneath it. if we all like the same type of music then the scene would be bland with no new genres , style of sound breaking through in my oppinion.

what makes music interesting is the the creative aspect of music, for examle how the same sample can be manipulated in totally different ways by different people thus the end product ending up totally unique from each other.

different like different sounds which is better for creativity, and innovative new music, sounds being produced.

how much music have you been introduced to through mates?
can't speak for anyone else, but for me it's shitloads...
Everyone gets bored with the same stuff over & over again, just takes some peeps longer than others is all...
Just like with women, you need a bit o strange every now and again to keep things interesting

Would you like it if everyone listened to Boyzone and Take That?. The big companies pump out commercial music and thats only what about 75% of the population EVER listen to. STEPS, All Saints, Ronan (bloody) Keating, etc etc.

What would be wrong with that you ask? What would be right with that I say!! Same argument isnt it?. There needs to be the occasional "break out" now and again from what people like musically, to bring about a new sound which could become the 'favorite' style.........like disco to house, if everybody just liked disco and had blinkers on to other things, house may not have happened, some guitar thing might have hit big and the whole 4/4 rhythm dance stuff just evaporated.

I know what youre trying to say (I think) that if everyone was the same and all conformed to liking the same thing then what would be the problem.........but cant you see the slippery slope that line of thought leads things down?

If youre specifically talking dance music, then it becomes a variation on the same theme (dance music), and theres nothing wrong with fans of dance music listening to the genre always (should they choose, and have other options available should they wish), aslong as there are varients of old skool and variants of trance and breaks etc within that group, and...... with a question like that you asked, maybe theres a nationalist hidden inside you after all . lol. Variations on a theme should be acceptable, for example Acid House and Piano pleasers in the same club/night/set........but if somebody stuck on something that obviously didnt belong to the genre like Status Quo mid set, or some crazy Ukranian folk music or something, Im sure people wouldnt be too pleased unless thier so off thier box on stupifying drugs they arent even interested... lol.

IMO, it depends on the listener and how blinkered the listener is to different musics.

Some people ONLY listen to old skool 88-92 - they are missing out on LOADS of music.

Some people ONLY listen to breakbeat tunes - they are missing out on LOADS of music.

Some people ONLY listen to piano tunes - they are missing out on LOADS of music.

Some people ONLY listen to acid house tunes - they are missing out on LOADS of music.

Some people ONLY listen to Dance music as a whole - they are missing out on LOADS of music.

If you listen to ANYTHING as there's always SOMETHING good from each style of music that will appeal to you then you've more chance of a great catchment of good music.

As for the question, if we all liked the same music, yes it'd be boring as we'd have TOO much in common and nothing to discuss, also we'd not be able to wind each other up and have sly digs about piano/acid

You need to be more like John Peel, play/listen to all sorts of stuff

So, going to dance events week in/week out and hearing the following line up in a set wouldnt get boring?:

Asha - JJ Tribute
Young Mc mix
Bassheads - Anybody out there
Gat Decor - Passion
TechnoAge - Moving on
Jinny - Keep warm
Joy and Joyce - Baby Baby

By not only one DJ, but several thoughout the night/weekend?

?

Over, and over, and over and over again . ??!!!

It would drive me utterly BONKERS even though I LIKE the tunes!!!!!!!

Its horses for courses, they are good tunes right, yes they are floor fillers as they are the most well known etc etc, but by christ it gets boring after a while. If you need the same old tunes to get up and dance and give it large then it might show how stale the listener is, more than the music.

I bought an old italian tune Id never heard of before last week, its not hyped up, Id never even heard of it before, but I know if I was in a dark and dingy nightclub and that was pounding out, Id go mad for it. I wouldnt go and sit down at the side until something I recognise comes on or until the DJ plays a 'set' structure I recognise. I think thats missing the whole point of dance music.

I love the anthems, but to hear them over and over and over and over and almost predict the mix sequence of tunes accurately, it would do my box in if I was a regular club goer.

Its like old people having a "bench" at the sea front where they have banana butties the first sunday of every month, year in and year out, and getting upset that somebody is sitting on thier bench, and theyve done that routine since 1956. To them, its nice, thats what they enjoy and that is thier choice, but to others the sheer predictability of it would drive them insane. lol

Sirius.
