Yes it was..another MFF tune. The sample was from a Leeds United football record with one of their scottish coaches speaking!

Welcome to the board Chris

Ive a fair few tunes that you did, always liked the DMC mix of River Ocean

Have to agree about Fabi Paras, saw him in 92 in Leeds and he blew me away, way ahead of his time

You mentioned the "balearic" vibe of playing anything in a set, agree with you there, I used to go to Most Excellent in Manchester that played a whole range of music and I lost a lot of passion for clubs when everything became pigeonholed. If you have any old Gardening Club sets along those lines I'd like to hear them

Somewhere in the garage Ive 2 tapes of a show you did on Dream FM, Leeds around 92/93, Ive been meaning to dig it out for a while now, I'll try and find it

Sirius.
Hi mate.........James Wiltshire was the piano player , but we both used to work out chord sequences - it's interesting you mention the keys being something you would never think worked - check out the chords in the EBTG mix on the key changes , they were simply destined to be there! Todd Terry of course simply used a far easier and more immediate series of chord progressions.
The art is first of all to find the base note of a song obviously but then to work out every other possible chord progression and key change around the vocals. You'll surprise yourself with what works! The rest is down to intense programming and dance floor know how.
I mentioned earlier the C+J mix of spirits.........for me that and the EBTG mixes were as musical as you can get within dance music. We owed a huge debt to Brothers In Rhythm for showing that epic mixes could still be dancefloor killers.....the whole DJ and Engineer combination is a deadly one with the right two people.
I am not musically trained but I think you'll find that is in no way a detriment to being able to make music if you find the right engineer..............if you played any of the suuceesful 2 track bootlegs to most engineers they would recoil in horror at the key clashes! Me and you would just be imagining the dancefloor reaction!
As an example the Talizman mix works on many levels despite having the most out of key vocals it is possible to have! The key ingredients are the bassline (Bassheads of course) and the piano riff (Thrashing Doves/ Bocca Juniors).............balearic heaven for me!

............Fabi Paras...............now he was a incredible DJ- light years ahead of his time.

Possibly one of the best club nights i went to, that and the Drum Club were just a music lovers idea of heaven. I was at them religiously and go funny just thinking about how messy i used to get lol Of all the nights i went to i probably miss those the most. Remember the Laurent Garnier sets
As for Fabi, without doubt the most overlooked underated DJ of the whole rave scene bar none, seen him blow clubs away with his sets, pure class. If he like the media a bit more he wouldve cracked it, but maybe thats a good thing about him he kept things to himself an awful lot. (oh and he was always blitzed lol)

My god, I remember that! The top of a tower block with Sean Smith (?).

Good shout on Most Excellent...........I never went but I was a huge fan of Justin and heard him play some incredible sets in london. You had that and we had Flying, Nottingham had Venus and Glasgow had the Sub Club. I can well remember him dropping the club mix of Bob Marley's 'Iron Lion Zion' to a heaving mass of trannies and glammed up clubbers at Pushca once.

I used to live over the road from his parents in fulham and probably djed with him over 200 times and I never once got more than a nod off him!

The Pinch on a Tuesday was great for us as djs because it allowed us to play progressive / trance sets every week without losing punters as we would at club 4 Life which was more of a party / balearic vibe.

Another question for you....

What is the guy saying in the C&J Remix of Coyote - Troy....

The male vocal sample about half way through the tune before the pianoey bit.....been doing my nut in for years...... come to think the birds sample at the start is doing my swede too........ I have been saying the following for the last decade or so....maybe you can put me right..

Male Vocal sample - "I see you deja"
Female Vocal sample - "Bagety Shoe' ...lol ... the wife reckons this is 'back at the shore'

samples attached..

where are the samples from too ?

Hi mate,

Sorry no idea! The parts came from Zammo like that and i've never heard them before or since...............I always thought it was 'rockin the show', but who knows?
There are a couple of samples we chucked in from renegade soundwave (the keyboard stab from 'Thunder'.......which i think they nicked from a hip hop record), and a snippet of 'The Realm'.
If you like that mix then you should try and track down the 'd trance pinch dub' of Perks Of Living Society 'Body and soul' , whcih from memory is on the remix 12" (Cowboy Records). It's got a very similar 303 line...........we were heavily into the whole Hard Hands / Leftfield thing at the time.

Incidentally, does anyone know what happened to Zammo?

Weirdly, I was going to ask you about Zammo. The Tune In remix - did it come about due to the fact he was on the same label - Stress? Or did you know him anyway?

Also - on a promo sheet which came with Club for Life '98 mixes - it said something like 'would you like to be invited the the Christening of Chris's baby.' I'm guessing your child would now be about 6 and a half, and it always stuck in my head as a weird thing to have on the sheet - so I wondered what did you call your child?

We used to play at The Rhumba all the time - an incredible club. Myself and Dave Seaman signed Zammo on the strength of his club night really! We did a mix swap for 'Tune In' / 'Troy' as i recall.

Not sure what that was all about on the press sheet.........yes I did have my youngest around that time but it sounds like a Nick Darby (Stress press officer at the time) stitch up............some of those press releases were genius.
