I think the main thing peeps consider is when or if ya get to play out is that nearly 90% of clubs and bars will have technics there so if ya have learnt on anything else they will be some differences. I know mine have a much slower pick up speed when ya slow the deck down to the technics equivalent. As soon as i can afford em i will be getting technics hope that helps fella. Theres plenty more peeps with different opinions though so dont make ya choice straight away fella Andy

| ? How Ya Doin Retro M8, Numark have 5 different models out so you will have to ask The Dannster which model he had, I think i would only go for the top of the range one which is £350.00 if i decided to go with Numark, and Vestax have a £500 deck out but don't know anybody who has tried one..... | Personally, Ive been very seriously contemplating some Stanton STR8-100's. Its only a matter of time really I suppose before I buy some. I always need a good period of 'build up' to psyke myself up to spend that sort of money!!! hahahah. Lookwise, the Stantons of that model look the absolute dogs wotsits, and they have quite a high torque rate too, the more expensive 150's are even higher than the technics I think. Until I actually see some and examine the build quality and 'finish' I wouldnt buy anyting over the net. From what I can make out on some pictures ive saved of the str8-100's thay look a great build quality. Technics are still regarded the 'daddy' of decks, but there is (as you say) hundreds of models and manufacturers of decks nowadays!. I think the Stantons are a good rival to Technics and Im sure theres others too. Ive heard it depends on whether you are a gigging DJ and therefore what you need to 'get used to' or a bedroom jock with no master plan for world DJ domination! lol. Ive only ever used technics once, and they were 'smooth' lol, however Im keen to grab hold of a dabble on some Stantons in some unsuspecting shop somewhere .See ya Sirius. |

I have a pair of Stanton STR8-90s, and they are great. Excellent torque, platters almost as heavy as Technics, plus a choice of switching the slider to 8%, 15% and 25%. That is great for doing your own mixes at home, to slow down those extra fast tracks into your mellow mix - but it is also nice that the default setting is 8% like Technics. Some cheaper decks have 10% on the slider - if you get used to that then go and play on a technics you might be screwed! So if I am preparing for a club night, I obvisouly leave it on 8%. The stop/start time is equivalent to technics and even has a reverse button. Slight problem (as always) is that the slider is a bit touchy around zero - but then again so are the SL1210s I play on in the club. Overall - they were 50% of the price of 1210s, but are easily 90% as good. hope this helps, Paul |

| For ease of use and functions i prefer vestax pdx 2000 to technics, theyre isnt much in it for me between them but with vestax's extra's they win for me. However ive bought technics again cos A) they were 4 ton of ebay and B) theyre in every club ive played in. |

| good feedback Yeh just checked out the stanton range sirius, they look very much like technics but how do they drive, and i'm gonna have a look at the vestax decks aswell, It's really hard trying to judge just by looks alone, I could do with test driving each of them for say a week or 2, If anybody has any articles or tests etc out of the DJ mags then I wouldn't mind a scan.... Cheers Acestu as ever!!
