problem getting playstation 3 online

hi there, wondered if anyone can advise me on this please

ive bought a ps3 and cant get the thing online. been at it all day and still cant get the dam thing connected im on aol platinum with a wireless modem but have my pc connected via ethernet cable. i have tried setting up the modem to wireless and chose a network name and password, but after that it tries to connect my pc as wireless which it wont cos ive got no wireless adaptor, at this point i exited the set up. ive tried to get my ps3 to connect to the web (wireless) and my ps3 searches and finds the modem and comes up with my network name on my tv. and the wireless light on my modem lights up. it also asks for a wpa number, which ive found under my modem. the ps3 then searches for my ip address (which it couldn't find, but i seem to have found this and put it in manually, and it now says ip address sucesfull) the problem is i keep getting a dns error 80710102 and its at this point im stuck ive no idea what this means or where to find a dns number, if i get the ps3 to set up automatic, it wont find my ip address, but if i do it manually i have to put in my ip address then subnet, then gateway, then primary dns and secondry dns and then i get the dns error. ive typed the dns error code into a search engine and there seems to bee 100s of folk with the same problem, some posts try to explain how to overcome this prob, but i cant make sense of them

just wondered if any of you guys have had this problem, and could tell me where im going wrong, in a way a thick t**t like me will understand any advice other than get a 360, would be really appreciated

This is the thing that puts me off getting a PS3... I really really want one but I'm technically inept...

I may just get a table top coin-op Scrambler instead

yeah me too, i didn't buy it for the online part tbh, but a bloke i know wants to kick my ass on motor storm (fat chanch of that i play far too dirty ) anyways he is gonna come round and try sort it for me tonight, so hopefully ill be up and running later. good thing is about online though is you can download demos to try, which is quite handy.

scramble was great i used to play it all the time as a kid, at the local sports centre, used to miss my lunch to use my pennies to play it the next level after your screen shot was a killer though especially when you had to move right up the front of the screen so you had enough room to drop to the bottom of the city level and the stupid little step up, always used to catch me out

Plug the PS3 ethernet cable into your router, and off you go. No need to do anything else!
