click start, right click on my computer, click on manage, then click on device manager, options will open on the right,go to sound, video and game controllers and click on the + sign again options will open, right click on audio driver, ya need to unistall the audio driver, dont worry once ya reeboot ,windows will automatically install audio driver...back again....only do this option if everyting else fails, dont forget to reeboot after,i do mine regular it keeps sound card runninn smoothly,if that fails try to installl ac97,,,just google it,its free.....i may need more info off ya though as well,is it xp or vista.ie....post back with results...
