thats a cool first attempt

as the program is designed to work around text images and is not a 3d modelling program there are only two ways to get objects in there.

1 is search the fonts on the internet for dingbats or similar they will import to the program if they are installed in windows.

2 is to create a vector image with another graphics program and import it as an emf file but that's a tricky task to explain in words.i use Corel its a complicated process, but xara do a prog called xtreme which lets you trace or draw your own shapes. still not childs play though.
What's new in Xara Xtreme

there are methods of using what is called fudging to get text images to look like objects.
this is text based as the turntable is just a large full stop in a square full stop from different fonts.with imported textures

the method of how it is done is tricky to explain and i would suggest looking at the xara forum for tips and also youtube has some video tutorials as well
my thread on the turntable will link you to thier forum
turn table - TalkGraphics.com

the zone gif in my sigs is vector based shaping, then i built up the metal textures in adobe cs3 then used the import texture command in xara but all the graphic files have to be the same size for true alignment.

nowt to do with the progs above

this is creating a seperate layer of the face in abobe using the extract program then creating two animated gifs in jasc animation shop then using the color rotate then overlay the face with matching frames and timing.
