Log In, Log Out...Log In, Log Out...........

Reet, this is prob a simple question but its vexing me so I would appreciate any help sorting it out:

When I get onto OSA on the PC at work I am constantly logged in, ie Can post straight away se my PM's straight away blah blah.

However, When I stick me laptop into the phone line, dial up and get onto good ol' OSA I have to always go through the task (Oh, its soooo difficult!!!) off logging on and sometimes I get kicked out and have to do it again.

How do I make it so my laptop is connected as soon as I log onto the site? I think its got something to do with the cookies, and I am running ME (not sure why thats on it should be xp metyhinks) but thats prob irrelevant.

Please Help,

YOURS,

Slightly Annoyed.

Go into 'User CP' and 'Edit Options' (whilst using your laptop). Check 'yes' next to 'Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)' Then 'Submit Modifications' and in theory this will sort you out

I say 'in theory' because it SHOULD place a cookie on your machine which auto logs you on. However, this doesn't always happen because firewalls (personal or otherwise) are becomming commonplace these days, and they're quite often configured to block some or all cookies.

Configured properly the firewall will allow cookies which you specify as safe to reside on ya machine. Trouble is a lot of peeps have a firewall installed and have bugger all idea how to configure it.

Shout if ya still got probs mate, cause me and this bastard cookie are becomming close buddies

Hmmm, thought it was working but its not! I have altered my 'edit options' to auto login but I am still logged out when I first arrive on the site!!!

What else should I do?

I've got Norton running which could be the root of it?

When I go into Internet options, the only cookie options are Allow pre-session and allow cookies to be stored on your pc????? Should I have these on enable or disable?

Hmmmmmm
Arrrrrggggh

Try going in to: http://64.119.167.89/forum/index.php?s= directly from the browser, ie6 should then let the site store cookies to let you stay logged.

Half the time the problem is that ie6 won't let a page in a frameset that's from a different ip as the main address put in a cookie, the only way round it is for the user to drop their security settings or set the permissions for the address of the site that want's to put in the cookie.

Had a mare with this on a project I did a few months ago!!!! The irony is microsoft making such a fuss over security when there software is totally full of holes!!!!
