Network Question!

I work in a company that has just got wireless broadband installed.

My office is linked to it via a wireless key that fits into the USB socket at the back of one of the machines. This PC runs windows 2000 pro/server.

Attached to this machine is a HUB from which another three computers are linked via a RJ45 style cable into the ethernet (?) sockets in the network cards. These computers run Windows XP Professional.

Is there a way I can route the broadband to all the computers (on the sly) so that we all feed off the USB key connection on the master machine?

If so, can somebody explain how to do it in a fashion that Im about 4 years old .

Ive looked on the net, and havent found this exact situation covered, and as such cant put those guides into practice.

Plus, if that doesnt work, there is a spare key I MIGHT be able to get hold of and install on my WIndows XP machine and do it that way, but where do I find out all the information I need to run the key? Mac Addresses or RFID numbers etc etc for the network. I might be abkle to look at the router when the management are out tomorrow if that helps, or is there a way to "copy" the connection details and protocols from the Win2000 machines to the XP machines.....

yes.

Enable internet connection sharing on the USB NIC, this will allow you to NAT down onto the Ethernet network card. run a patch lead from the ethernet card into the switch and connect the machines you want to enable access for to the switch also, they will dynamicaly pull IP's from the ethernet NIC in the machine and gateway through the USB NIC.

Ip's are assigned already, I cant afford to mess to much (if at all) with Ip addresses. I fannied about trying to internet connection share on the "Network places" page a few months ago and it warned me that if I ticked sharing it would destroy my IP settings and change the computer to another address.....I knew the IP's and thought bollox to it, I will try it - and I knocked the whole bloody system down and no internet either. Took me ages to sort out but luckily there were only two people in that day.

So I need another network cable (rj45 style)? Theres already one going out of the network card to the hub, cos thats how the others manage to reach it..... The IP's dont really matter aslong as we can all communicate at the end of the day, and nobody is 'lost' without access or I will be in the shit for meddling above and beyond my competancy lol.

Could you be a darling Stylee and eleborate in the style Im four years old and just come off a speak and spell computer lol.

Where do I find what, what settings are there, what are the pitfalls so I can always undo what Ive done if it doesnt work? I dunno what the acronyms for all these things are besides ICS USB PCB (lol).

I think I would need to be actually sat there at work whilst I did it, and as such, calling whilst I do it, and thus being 'obvious' is a bit of a no-no lol.

If theres any 'space' where everybody is out, I could give it a whirl. It depends how it goes tomorrow.

This is the setup here, with the basic computer system. Ive missed off a few computers that trail off elsewhere. These dont have to be linked, infact its maybe better that they arent 'free range'.

Ive been trying to square it with my immediate boss, but because it doesnt sound too easy to achieve and it involves "messing with equipment we shouldnt mess with" its not 'open' to do it. If I could get it working, Im sure he would enjoy the internet ability as much as anyone else - strictly professional (we use a lot of catalog components and cad files that are increasingly internet based rather than paper).

These are the pictures I grabbed earlier, and my diagram. The warning notice is what I got last time, and it cocked everything up when it changed the addresses.........

lol that it is, i can actually do it remotly for you and no one will know

setup would go (USB to Shared card, shared card to Switch, Switch into office machines) the shared card changes ip address and NATS the service down to a new ip range, it then distributes ips to the connected machines on the switch, even tho the IP range is different the NAT policy allows both ranges to talk to eachother so all machines should still be able to talk to eachother and have tinterweb access
