Get this:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows

Along with the LAME plug in.

Get one of these (Assuming you have a seperate tape deck, not a HiFi):

(If you only have a HIFI with a headphone socket as output you will need different leads, one with one smaller plug each end - like above but with the single shaped one each end).

Putting the two 'castle looking' leads into the OUTPUT ports at the back of your tape deck, (or, if you must use the headphone jack with the other lead, put one end in the headphone port) Plug the other into this on your computer:

Where it says 'Line In' (or has an arrow in a circle pointing down into the circle). Set up your windows recording mixer/sounds etc to record sound on the 'Line In' of the soundcard in your PC. To do this, know the name of your soundcard, and find the relevent button in the Control Panel of windows. Try and not use the Microphone option, cos its potentially crappy.

Record in Audacity, play your tape into the computer, with levels in Audacity that just sit below the "red" on the dancing bars at the top right of the screen.

"Save as" MP3 when done. (or "Export to MP3")

Jobs a good one.

Sirius.

I've got a laptop so i don't know if its different with them & my music system is just small pioneer seperates, one of them being a mini disc player and wud luv to put some of them on to my pc as well and just wandered if u know any other info (i haven't checked behind my system just my laptop) Thanx mate

Sorry for the delay, lol. I havent checked the Help Section for a few days.

What laptop have you got?

It should hopefully have these on the back or the side:

If it doesnt, then eeerrrrm, it doesnt look like your laptop has a built in soundcard, which may mean you need to buy something similar to this:

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...1&GroupID=1140

but, I have no knowledge on this type of device for laptops, so check a few sites out. If your Laptop has PCMCIA, you can get one that slots in there, but the one I link to above just plugs into a USB socket (from what I believe) which I would think was more suitable and if you ever need to put it to a PC you can do too..

As for your Pioneer tape deck, hopefully you should see this at the back (excuse my drawing lol).

toodle pip

Sirius.
