I thought you could if you go into the post and use the edit/delete button does this not delete the thread the same way if would delete the post ? Maybe wrong but worth a try eh

Got to your thread & next to the 'quote' button is another symbol (like a page & pen thingy?), press that & you can edit or delete your thread / post
