Debs,
It will be your recording options in your soundcards control panel.
I take it you have a soundblaster type thing.

Click on the loudspeaker icon in your task bar to bring up the mixer.
This will usually show the playing mixer, go to advanced options and select the recording mixer and adjust the sliders down to reduce the distortion.

control panel - sounds & audio devices - Audio (tab) - volume button on sound recording - reduce the slider which has a tick in the 'select' box

ermmm.....all this is in XP btw....hope it helps?

But i think your really wanting to reduce the bass on the ones you've already uploaded to your PC, rather than do em all again????

Might be obvious, but are you sure you're plugged into the line input on your soundcard and not the mic input?

When using sound forge, all you need to do is make sure the level indicator, to the R.H.S of your screen doesnt go in to the red, the main settings are quite easy to manage Volume, Graphics, aslo fads pans and effects ect.
If you get stook give us a shout, BTW what version are you using.
