| Any wirless networker experts here I have a few problems with a network im trying to set up on behalf of a work collegue. The set up is 3 pcs and a laptop, connected wirelessly to d link wireless router. The router is in one of the upstairs bedrooms sitting next to one of the pcs which the signal strength is excellent, but in the back bedrooms the signal is very poor to the point of cutting off at random. Also connected to the router via ethernet is a wireless print server, to allow all 3 and the laptop to print off independently. Changed the IP address of the printer server to be within the range of the router and the PC (next to the router/print server) works fine also so does the laptop. But the print jobs requested from the back two bedrooms always are throwing up "error in printing" messages in the printer status and the spoolerv.exe is running at 100%cpu usage Any tips or suggestions gratefully recieved on this malarky Cheers ears Andy t |

| First of all if your signals are poor you will be prone to dropping which will cause print errors . Have you enabled printer sharing on the servers and the print drivers ? |

| Yep enabled print sharing on all the pcs What causes such a poor signal? I thought there was quite a big range on these g-rated things? Andy |

| Might be a long shot but a guy at work had problems with D Link stuff. He had to upgrade the firmware on his router and it was all sorted. Worth a try. ![]()

| all depends on the building, if the walls are big thick fuckers then the signal is going to be sapped to death. we put one in at work but its an old building with massive thick walls and pc in back room, not 10 metres away got an ultra shit signal, with the same print spooler errors as well you could try a mimo router, be a lot more expensive but gives loads more range or what often works and is cheap is getting bigger aerials for the router & the network cards/usb adapters some of these for the adapters and even router - http://www.wirelesspro.co.uk/store/c...roducts_id=332 or if the bloke is flush grab one of these for the router and itll boost the signal massively http://www.wirelesspro.co.uk/store/c...roducts_id=223 |

| Damn...that reminds me....Id forgot about the g rating. Id changed broadband to another BT one, which comes today with a wireless modem/router for internet sharing. My dad needs to work out in the back of the garden on his laptop, which is (estimate) about two car lengths away from the house. The signal will have to go through the house wall(red brick)/double glazing right though to the bottom of the garden through a double wooden insulated shed thingy. Do you think it will cut it? Cheers sirius. (sorry for the hijack) |

| I had similar problems with A linksys wireless router I had , outside of the room the router was in the signal was poor . Binned that and accepted a free one off BT (Voyager 2091) and it's nothing less that fantastic. I can use the laptop on any of the 3 floors in the house and in the garden with a full strength signal. No messing and no tweaking that was straight out of the box. Have you looked in the router configuration, in there you should be able to change the channel setting and increase the signal strength . See if that helps .. |

Ive been looking on the net for information and its all been pretty much doom and gloom so far. .People also have problems with running "servers", where people cant access you via FTP, and big problems with Bit Torrent and Peer2peers like they are locked off or really really slow. HAve you had any hassle on that score? Ps, whats this YAHOO about? I hope its not like an AOL type thing where you have to install loads of crap and you navigate via some crappy Yahoo thing .....Cheers, Sirius. |

| ftp should work as long as you forward the right ports on the router, same for p2p |

| im sick to death of my router at home, ive got the linksey one too. my computer signal (in another room downstairs) used to be crap or not connecting, so moved it bit closer and now it aint too bad (11Mbps) but it will just cut off when it wants and the other computer wont even connect to it so we've had to connect it with a wire. One thing i tried was turning off our mobile landline phone and the internet miraculasly started working again. Id rather have a bloody wire runnin through my room i tell ya!spesh when you spend nearly £80!!! ![]()
