Strange Happenings on the Tigs PC

I've got a feeling I'm gonna have to do a rebuild to fix this one but I thought I might as well throw it to y'all to see if anyone has any ideas....

My PC had been behaving a bit strangely of late - processes have not been ending for apps and they had to be killed before I could restart the app.

Also folders on the C drive were setting themselves to read on ly for no apparent reason and finally on Friday morning the system started logging itself out the second the login password was entered.

The system runs XP Pro SP1 with Norton Antivirus fully updated.

I did run what claimed to be a patch a few weeks ago but instead of doing what it said on the tin it ran a dos window for a second a 'appeared' to do nothing.

Booting into safe mode does not help as the system still logs itself out.

Any ideas - I'd rather not rebuild the system as it has a tonne of personal configs, codecs, bookmarks and settings I'd prefer not to lose but I can't think of any alternatives.

(Also means I have to restart HL2 - not so bad )

Try a system restore to a day or 2 before this problem started

Also if you copy the HL2 folder in C\Programs then put that on a CD or something, when you restore its and copy it back into programs folder all your save points will still be there, you can do this even if you rebuild as well,

having not played HL2 I dont know the exact folder within HL2 folder that contains the save points but you can have a look for it yourself

It wont be hard to find and might even be called save points or something like that.

Could reboot with XP disk in - one of the options it should ask you is to repair...

Might do the trick
