Fuming re: CDR capacity

Just bought soem Philips CD-R90's for the 800mb capacity. Need to put a file on them thats 731MB yet the pc tells me there's only 702MB of space on them????

Am I being super thick here or are these higher capacity CD's a total rip off????

Going to return them - does anyone have any recommendations as to what is best CDR to buy to copy this size of file too?????

i'd say neither, could be the software you're using could be what you're trying to fit on there. 731 will fit on with the right software..i think xp doesn't recognise them. (for burning purposes, will recognise them once they are done)

I havent used 800mb cdrs as I havent had the need to but I would say your problems either a hardware or software one.
What software are you using to burn?
With Nero you have to goto "preferences" then "expert features" & change the max cd length.
I'm sure it also depends on your burner, not all burners can actually burn 800mb+ cds so whats your make/model?

I downloaded Nero, but no joy so far. Changed the time to 90mins first and then down one min, but each time said there was not enough space to write onto the disc...

Jaz - this is what it says in device manager: QSI CD-RW/DVD SBW-242

I'm guessing then that its a hardware issue and the drive is incapable of recognising cd's more than 80 mins in length, which imho is s**te for sommat that we only got six months ago...

when u try to burn an oversize disc that way, it will say 'the compilation contains too much data for the cd - do you want to overburn?' - click 'write overburn cd' (see the piccy i attached)

if it still says 'insert a larger disc' it might be worth setting the upper limit for overburning to 99:00:00 which is what any drive bought within 6 months should be capable of.
