Surely a local TV/HiFi repair shop could manage this? Perhaps Ive been fortunate in my area.

I dont know if they are 'special' sizes for technics (ie the length of the electrical component) but they are usually regular 'off the shelf' "Linear Potentiometers" which in theory anyone with any qualified electrical nouse could replace.

You shouldnt be paying over 6quid for 'parts' in my opinion.

RS Electronics Catalog (kind of renouned in engineering/trade circles) sell them at about 4 quid each.....so I roughly allow 1.5 hours for labour and 6 quid for the part (maybe a few quid more for a pukka 'technics' model)!!!
If the guy turns round as says thats gonna be £80 - £20 for the part, three hours to fit it blah di blah, he talketh out his arse, lol.

The trick is matching the prongs and the length to fit the PCB, and fair enough, the technics may be an obscure size, but if they are roughly 4 quid to make and sell, dont be conned into like 5 times that, lol

I have found if know what youre on about when saying what the fault is, they dont try and do you (as much) . Okay the guy needs to make a living, give him a bit of slack, hahah.

Im assuming it is the slider, and not the round one you turn with a screwdriver. The round one should be even less.

See ya

Unfortunately, the two shops I went to last have vanished in the last 5 years or so. Im sure there would be others who have taken thier place though, theres probably little pokey repair shops allover the place that could do it for you, its just finding em init.

I dont know manchester very well apart from the center, so I cant be much use there Im afraid. A quick look for "Electrical Repair" on www.yell.com spits out a fair few, lol. Obviously, they could be Hoover repairers or just general electronic goods or something - but the first few are classified under 'repair'
so you could enquire I suppose. Failing that, try that place in Stoke mentioned earlier I suppose .

65 per deck sounds a tad expensive to me, but perhaps its the 'going' rate nowadays. Id have expected both decks being done for that!lol.....but perhaps Im out of touch with reality. I could very well be.

Hope Im not confusing matters with my rambling. Its just that if an RS slider will fit a tecnics, it should be a piece of cake for somebody to do it.
At 65 per deck, I may learn soldering and basic electronics then pack my job in and become a travelling Tecnics repair guy! Kerching!! lol.

Think about it this way, theres some brand new belt drive decks complete with mixer in ARGOS retailing at £199 or less...and to fix both yours are £130...but perhaps thats the way it is now, I dunno.

Wait for that Stoke info I reckon.

Like I say, I dunno if any of them shops will be any use, but theres no harm enquiring I suppose. . For all I know, it may be a specialist part that only fits in technics.....but Im sceptical about that. They may have to send for a pair whoever you find to do it, and it may take some time tom arrive!

If you are sure its that component thats gone, at least you can give it its technical term now (if you didnt know already that is)........and if they look at you blankly say "Its that pitch thingymajig wotsit that doofers up the speed on a technics turntable"

See ya bud.

I dunno if this is still the case but you used to be able to mail order spare parts from Technics/Panasonic

Used to work in a radio station and when some fat fucker sat on one of the decks and bent the arm, we ordered a replacement arm from technics.

If you can get a spare pitch control from them and you're reasonably handy with a soldering iron it should be fairly easy to change.

Before you take to your deck with a soldering iron or send it to be repaired at great cost, have you tried cleaning the pitch control? Like sirius points out it's just a variable resistor and is exactly the same as a fader on a mixer... It could be worth getting some switch cleaner or servisol and cleaning it like you would your crossfader. Unfortunately though they do wear down after a while so it could be that it needs replacing, usually the problem is around zero pitch on the mk 2's with the dip at zero.
