Quicktime files (.mov)

I want to integrate some video clips into a powerpoint presentation, but they are all in Quicktime format. How do I go about converting them to run in powerpoint? I've got Quicktime but It's a Mac progggie isn't it? Not sure P/Point would like it.Can I just rename the file format to MPEG or is it gonna be a fecker to do. I'm trying to liven up a presentation for college, and it seems I've bitten off more than I can cope with. LOL

mov files are compressed with a scheme that Powerpoint won't work with.

You can't just rename the extension because mpg and mov are different formats and are handled differently via different codecs.

The trick is to export the mov file to an avi (you can do this from within quicktime pro)... you have to use the Cinepak compression for it to work in powerpoint but if you play about some other compression schemes then some of them may/will work.

You could also export a mov to a mov but select the Cinepak compression scheme instead of the default. Either of these methods should let you insert it into the presentation

Both these methods assume you have a copy of Quicktime Pro.

Regards,
f

Cheers fella
Will have a play around tomorrow while I should be working LOL
If I have any probs I'll get back to you.
Get the jist, I need to uncompress the files and then insert them. Or put a hyperlink in. Is this to the folder where thay are stored or am I way out here.
Please excuse my stupidity, but when it comes to proggie stuff I'm a bit of a newbie

I re-wrote it after you read it

But yeah.. you get the jist.

If all else fails you'll have to settle for a hyperlink that peeps can click. There maybe some programs out there other than Quicktime that will be able to do the same recompression process but I'm not that savvy with video editing software.
