Total Meltdown...(Harddrive)

Ahh Shyte

I was using me PC yesterday and left it on for a couple hours while I did other things, when I come back to it ..it said on the monitor 'No Signal' like when the PC isn't switched on, but the monitor is.

So I turned it off at the switch an back on a few mins later...an nothin happened...the lights are coming on my PC but theres no hard drive activity at all, I reacon the hard drive must have gone bump cos I've tried swopping the power lead to the hard drive in case it was a dodgy lead an still nowt down. The CD Rom drive whirls an lights up so I reacon its just the hard drive.

If it is the hard drive, I don't mind buyin another cos I was gonna buy a bigger one anyway an their dead cheap now...BUT I have/had over 2000 tunes on it an various other things, pics etc that I don't wanna lose...d'ya reacon any of 'em will be able to be saved?? An if so will it cost a fortune?

D'ya reacon It is hard drive meltdown (it didn't make a noise or smell burnt or owt!)

Cheers.

Lee.

Or, try that drive in another pc (mates etc)

It might be the IDE controller has gone fucky?

Can you access the BIOS setup screen, have a look in there and see if it's detected the drive(s) in there.

With that error it sounds proper fooked. ie the mobo or graphics card. That does mean all your tunes are probably safe though.

Update: I've started the PC up with the case open and the green light comes on on the hard drive but it still ain't spinnin, the power supplys defo OK then.

I cant get into the BIOS at all, cos it just aint startin up at all.All the power comes on but the BIOS aint startin so it won't boot up.

Does anyone reacon this is the Motherboard or hard drive?

The fan an CD rom work btw.

Reacon I might need a new PC!! Anyone know where I can get a cheap bog standerd PC from, cos I can swop the DVD drive an that outta me old one, an got a monitor an that, so just need a PC on its jack.

Cheers.

Video Card!

This sounds like a video problem matey because when your monitor has no RGB signal going to it , then it will say NO SIGNAL and even if your Screen res is set wrong you will still get your POST screen coming up on startup, check the obvious loose monitor cable , if not i would swap the video card to check it , wether it PCI or AGP , that's what it sounds like to me, if it were your Hard Drive a message would come up on your screen at startup saying Hard Disk Failure...

Hope this helps

Acestu as ever!
