Microdirect?

I (think I) remember Butty said he worked at MicroDirect in the past, and was again just looking at the 'base units'. I was just wondering if anyone knew if you could add your own stuff to it when you got it home without voiding warranty.

I'll be wanting to put a silent fan in, a SB Live Platinum AND a Soundblaster Audigy2 (backslot board and external drivebay) plus my 80GB hardisk.

Its just an idea at the minute, I priced up some components that make up a similar spec system at a shop in town and the microdirect bundle saves me over 100quid and is built already, with only my stuff needing adding. Giving the hassle I have with puters, the warranty may be useful! lol, although if I save over 100 quid, that hundred quid could be used to fix any problems with it locally.

I may just build my own yet, I dunno. I can try and expand it with chips, cards, new case, new soundcard to complement my existing one, CDRW drive and 128DDR graphics etc.......but it sounds too much like hassle to me!

Just pondering....

See ya

Sirius.

MD are cool about you upgrading yourself, I've bought 5 pc's over the past 5 years or so from them and not had any mither with returning things (a rarity as most of their stuff has been spot on)

I'd just avoid Maxtor HDD's over 40gig, as I had bad sectors on 3 Maxtor 80 gig drives I got, 2 of which were intermitant which is a pain in the arse when you take them in for testing and they say "they're fine!" then you get them home, and they fail (proper style) 2 days later.

Seagate drives are a much better build and more reliable.

Other than that, go for it, best place for pc bits in my opinion

Cheers chaps

Im gonna see what I can see in the sales, all electronic wise! lol. Whether I will part with any dosh is another matter (lol) but on the shopping list is:

New PC
New Monitor TFT
28 or 32" New flatscreen telly
DVD player
New speakers
New Soundcard
Surround sound kit.......

........etc! lol.

Skippy, is there any good sites to gen up on this sort of thing?

I havent money to burn, so if I can save 265 quid on a TFT and use a TV that helps, if my new pc has a DVDRW it saves me buying a DVD player, if my soundcard has the optional extra bundle of a surround sound kit I can save a few hundred on a special home cinema kit, etc etc! Donna wanna be buying stuff twice and stuff I dont need!.

Im looking at probably using a (new) PC as the main beast, a 28/32" TV (if I get one) as the main Display for everything, my computer as a video recorder, dvd player/recorder, surround sound unit, and all the other possiblities thrown in together so my room doesnt look like a branch of Curry's and I dont need a special account at the national grid for power consumption of all thr black/grey boxes Id have to buy seperately! lol.

Cheers

Sirius.
