Hercule Piorot-The Case of the Dissapearing Hard Disk....

Can you beat Hercule Piorot and help solve the case of the dissapearing HDD?

It started three days ago, when I booted up it said 'new hardware found' "The disk is not formatted, do you want to format it now?".

Obviously I picked no, and no again. So I rebooted. Then hey presto it was there, good as gold. Then last night I was downloading something to a partition on the drive and all of a sudden it stoped saying 'device is no longer accessible' then when I looked, the hard disk had vanished again.

I have two hard disk units in my machine, an 80gb and a 40 gb. The 40gb is my old one, which is dissapearing. I reboot and its there again for a fair while, say 6 hours, then without warning it just buggers off!.


Any ideas?

tek it to bits and check the jumper pin things on it, they might be screwed or something mate and keep popping it out or somet

or ur IDE cable may be bolloxed

LOL.. Innit. It must be built on an ancient cemetary of technology fearing luddites or sommet!!.

You dont even know the HALF of the wierd and wacky stuff that ONLY happens to me and memebers of my family!!! lol. The whole place and us in it are cursed I tell thee, cursed. To quote frasier off Dads Army "Wee're All Doooomed!, Doooooomed!"

Stuff like this I can handle, I just touch wood nothing life threatening happens......mind you, it can only be a matter of time living here!

I shall check the leads next time it goes AWOL. Ive transfered half the conents off it just in case, I need to tranfer the other half though if I can find room, just incase it goes bump (in the night!).

Sounds very Serious to me Sirius.....I would say Back up what you want while you can , cause this baby is goin to have a serious crash sooner or later....
