stuttering avi files..

when playing divx or xvid files now the picture hangs after a while but the sound keeps going fine.

it's not my set up as it should easily play these files and used to up until last week. I've checked the properties when playing and it's doing 12fps at best and then slowly goes down until the picture freezes.

we had a friend over last week who was playing some films and i suspect they've changed something and not told me..(can't get hold of them at the moment)

any obvious suggestions? tried defragging the drive but still no better.

kinda sorted now..x-vid files don't like to play in the 'video overlay' or something..which is what video files play in. It seems you can only have 1 vidoe overlay at a time..so by starting up any video file this then uses the video overlay, you can then start up the xvid file which will then play perfectly at 23.95 fps or whatever.

very strange how this has just started though, never used to have this problem. maybe before something else was using the 'overlay' without my knowing...i dunno

i'll leave this post up as i believe this is also a good way to get xvid files running on a low spec pc..
