HELP-Repairing System Files from within XP.

help! My windows XP has become corrupted, but I dont have to XP CD anyome to boot from it to reapir.
I can however get into windows an although not many Apps will load a few do. And I've managed to get to the XP set.exe where I can reinsall XP.But its gonna take up room I havent got. So is there a way to repair XP from within it, like you can do from booting from CD.
Plaese let me know soon before I bugger it up compleatly.I don't wanna lose eveyrthing on my HD.

there should be an option to restore last known good configuration somewhere that might solve ur problem

u can revert it back to how the comp was last week

Cos Im havin trouble even gettin the control panel up

And me browser dies every 2 mins

Ive tried to reinstall xp from the setup.exe but I wont have it.

I just want a way of fixin it without havein to reformat an loose all me tunes.

the corrupet file is C/windows/system32/FWlog.txt

whickh to me just lookes like a text file .I'll ry an do a system restore but Im sure it wont start again.

I thing xp is corrupted to death.
I just wanna repair it from within windows.

im not running xp here meself but if i remember rightly u go here

start menu > accessories > systemtools > system restore

u will be able to revert it back to how it was last week or something which might sort it.......that is unless u told it not to make back ups periodically that is

Hold f8 during boot-up then when the menu comes up choose "last known good configuration". You wont need to get into windows to do this.

Actually mate I tried that an it still give the corrupted files message, cos it doesn't actually fix any missin or corrupted files. Anyway I've got a XP CD now so I can repair it from there.
