PC Is Screwed....

Had a virus which was sorted and the lad who sorted that installed norton so that it scanned the boot record etc in dos before windows started....Norton has since been removed to install newer version and windows 98 has been over installed to sort a couple of probs.

Everytime pc loads now i get message in dos saying that norton registry files are missing and that if i want to re-install the prog this will solve the prob....if you want to continue press any key - so i do that and windows loads.

Windows boots up and i get me desktop on but with a message saying that windows has found registry errors and must restart to fix them, so do that and it reboots running the scandisk registry fix and boots again and does the same thing.....again and again and again.

So try to format it in me mates rack so its running as a slave drive but the fucker wont format at all and every time i try to do it in dos with the windows disc all i get is bad command even though im doing it right cos im going by a microsoft book.

If i upgraded me norton do you think it would solve the prob with the registry?

Anyone any ideas or do i need a new hard drive/PC?

******** DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT*******

Basicaly mate, Norton sits ni the registry.....

First things first... 98 uses autoexec.bat.... Open it up in a notepad or something like that ands remove ALL paths to norton

then save and exit

Dot he same with the config.sys

****** DANGER ZONE HERE*******

click start then run, and type regedit

Welcome to the register editor....

FIRST THING!!!! SAVE A COPY OF IT!!!!!!!! click file, then save as, and create a copy DO NOT FORGET TO SO THIS!!!!!!!!

Then go to edit and search for the word norotn, and delte the entries where it is... and then save and exit, then REBOOT

and VOILA

all fixed......

JUST DO NOT FORGET TO BACK UP THE REGISTRY.. YOU SCREW THIS THING YOUR POOTER IS FUCKED

Open up Notepad, then browse to c:\ and select all files, then just open it... or click drag and drop.

If you screww the reg, boot up in safe mod, then type regedit in the command, and then file, load, and select the back up file, then re boot and voila
