web based email

not having much luck with this one, now i'm no longer ADSL'd up and can only really do personal emails at work i need a good web based email service but one that lets you change the reply to & fom fields..have tried yahoo, freeserve & lycos, with yahoo getting closest - they let you edit the return address but it still says it's from user@yahoo.co.uk etc..

doesn't help that i can't connect to any of these via outlook /outlook express from work..

any ideas anyone?

thanks for replying beebock but it doesn't do any of the above and looks awful to boot..

If you're using web mail a lot i'd suggest changing to yahoo, the best i've found on my search.

You need to find a provider who supports POP3 or IMAP to be able to use your outlook client, I used to use f**kyou.co.uk that allowed me to use POP3 and gave me access to the headers. Thats gone now but I'll have a look tonight cause I have a list of some good email providers knocking about.

that's the main problem, I've got both outlook and outlook express on my works machine, neither of which will let me connect to a POP3 account...i know how to set em up & believe me I've tried. Outlook express just hangs and doesn't connect, tis strange though cause i can connect to newsgroups through it.

I think I'll stick with yahoo for now until someone can come up with a better option..it almost does everything i need except masking where the mails come from..it does let you put your own reply to address in though so not many people will notice..this is the only give away...the mailto bit, this is what you see when replying to one of my messages.

I'm guessing that the reason you can't connect to POP3 servers is because of the <sarcasm> unique </sracasm> way that Worldcom handles mail. You'll probably find that 110 is re-routed to the US at the IP level and that cocks everything up. Newsgroup access probably goes straight out of the UK gateway.

I had a look at my list of mail providers and none are doing what you want

The mailto thing is a "feature" of the mail client, it basically shows you that the place its going isn't the place you think its going. If that makes sense Can't get around that unless the person reading the mail uses a client like 'pine'.

Finding a server that allows you to re-write headers is probably going to be hard as allowing that allows mail to be spoofed. I'll keep my eyes open just in case tho. Look for a cmd line mailer called Blat... it owns and lets you create all the headers and add a few fake ones
