USB-2 ???????

Is USB-2 different from the USB ports you get on the back of a PC?

erm - just been looking through some reviews on the external CD writer that I was gonna reccomend to my mate and I read that it works slower if plugged into a normal USB port than if it's put into a USB-2 port!

http://www.jungle.com/webapp/wcs/sto...tegoryId=10075

Are you guys sure they're the same - don't want to reccomend it to my mate if its not going to work properly.

No offence to anyone but I don't think this has been explained very well here....

USB 2 uses the same connectors as the old standard USB devices but is capable of much higher speeds (so to all intents and purposes both look the same on the back of the PC). Your PC motherboard needs to have USB 2 in order to support USB 2 devices.

So yeah your CD writer may run slower... If you wanna know if the PC has USB2 capability I suggest looking on the device manager bit in the system section of control panel, there should be a section there for the USB ports and it should say Universal Serial Bus 2.0 somewhere if you've got it (I think!!!!)

Yeah Mike is right here fellas, USB 2.0 is MUCH faster, infact its 40 times faster, knockin up some 480 megabits per second.

Tigger USB 2.0 is the only way to go these days bro.

P.S
A USB 2.0 will work on a 1.0 or 1.1 USB port...it will just be limited in speed by the port, so its still best to buy 2.0 devices even if your motherboard doesnt actually have the 2.0 port, youll be getting something much more future proof.
