Ocean7931 (Jay Dobie) Profile

OSA Radio Slot:
Fortnightly Thursday 7.00pm – 8.00pm

Age:
36

Based:
South East

Preffered styles:
89 - 95 Progressive, Piano House

Been Playing For:
12 Years

Biog:
My early interest in house begun in the mid eighties as a DJ at the local youth club blending and fading early house and electro hip hop anthems to a very uneducated crowd of 15 year olds. In 1988 I moved onto work part time for luminar leisure as a wine bar DJ playing classic 80’s soul funk and in 1989 things really changed and I became interested in the fledgling acid house scene. After attending various illegals in and around the london and cambridge area I moved into organising various parties and totalled some 22 events between 1990 – 1995, guests at these would include Nick Annies (SOR), Lee Coombes, Tin Tin (energy), Stuart Banks (eclipse cambs), Shades Of Rhythm DJs, Mike Cosford (fantazia).
In 1995 I moved back into DJing and became dance buyer for an independent record retailer which meant lots of contacts, free tunes and mailing lists. The position went on for 7 years until 2002. I notched up various guest spots and residencies along the way finally slowing things down around 2003 to concentrate on sorting myself out with a real job. Most influential nights out: First visit to the Eclipse Coventry, Renaissance Mansfield, Krazy Klub Astoria London, Renaissance 2nd Birthday Que Club Birmingham.

Upcoming Gigs:
Stopped playing out around 2003 although still do about 2 parties a year in the local area for Chicagotrip.
