Good point

The point of view of somebody that has had a loved one murdered is not an objective standpoint, as much as the standpoint of the person who killed them is not.

If you dont punish people for doing wrong then how the hell can you expect threm to be arsed about doing it. There has got to be some deterrent, or else people go round doing what the hell they want.

I've lost a friend to a stabbing, and believe me I dont particularly feel that the people responsible deserve much mercy, but you dont see me going round doing the same thing do you? Doesn't stop me thinking how much i'd like to smash their fcuking heads in , but thinking and doing aren't the same thing
Wonder how many peoples views would alter dramatically if it happened to anyone they know Doubt they'd feel so sugar-coated towards our 'wonderful' society then.

I swear people these days have lost the concept of decent behaviour. All this gang culture is an absolute disgrace. Any damn fool can be the big 'hard' man when he's carrying a knife or a gun.

Imagine the murderer who although has killed in cold blood , has gone and killed the dirty paedophile that raped their kid. Well, I'd feel just the same if I were them, so the death penalty would seem so awful for someone like that when hand-on-heart I think 99% of us would probably want to do the same.
Theres so many different circumstances that peole kill / get killed but one rule for some and not for others would be ridicluous so the death penalty would probably open up far too many cans of worms.

But where would be the harm in making sure the time they do is hard time? It wouldnt kill anyone, and if they come out of jail thinking 'I am never ever going to come back in here.' then at least that achieves an objective?

Fook knows, I know theres no easy answer / solution but the streets are a scary place these days, and something had to have happened to make that be the case. Can just be rose tinted specs to make us think it never used to be this bad can it? Theres always been violent criminals / murderers / gangsters, i'm not saying there hasn't, but the world seems to have gone stark raving mad these days, and I for one, dread to think what it may be like in 20 years time if it continues on this downward spiral.

Reckon i'd feel safer in the company of the Krays than some coked-up little thug these days!!!!

Killing people is wrong. On principle.
Idealistically, the taking of any life is wrong for the same reasons.

That broadens the argument out to include eating meat, and stamping on spiders and stuff though, so some sort of balance between principles and pragmatism is needed.

Where do we draw the line?

For me it's straightforward. The line is drawn at the taking of human life.

Killing another person is always wrong, whether it's committing murder, by execution, or even in war, it can never be justified.

Slightly off topic..but ive never understood the arguments against eating meat beyond cruelty against animals when slaughtered..we are omnivores after all...we are animals whove been dealt a better hand in terms of intelligence, but we are still animals at the end of the day..no one gives a lion a tough time for its often brutal ways of killing its prey..we conversely praise its splendor...If people don't like eating meat and choose to be vegetarians thats fine..i wouldn't judge them for it..'meat is murder'..always make me laugh that. It's true though, where the death penalty is in effect there are still people that commit murders so it wouldn't appear that it works anyway. To be honest I've got no idea what the solution is, but as I've said before I think punishment for crimes such as murder should be about long hard time, lossing your freedom forever and spending the rest of your days doing hard graft that in some way benfits society.

For me personally killing people is wrong for whatever the reason.
