From the board and ppl off the board it seems that the Sony MDR-V700's are the dog boll**ks.

Looks like the ones I'm gonna get.

Round Up

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm getting 1210 Mk3's but ppl say the vestex decks are better, especially for the scratch kings. It all sounds like the betamax vs VHS debate... and I'm not getting sucker punched again

The resounding vote on headphones is.... Sony MDR-V700's. Everyone recommends these... and I've not seen one bad review.

Mixers, not decided yet, either a Pioneer DJM600 or 500 or a vestex XXXX (forgot the name).

As to the desk... Well until I find a house I need something portable. I'm getting a guitar case type thing that house's 2 decks and a mixer. The unit seals up like a suitcase which means I can keep it mobile. Bit steep at £100 but heh

Best deal I found was at Sapphires.co.uk. They offer 2 x 1210's, needles, slipmat, mixer, headphones and record bag for £700. I've not gone for this but I should have.

Everywhere else you'd just get 2 x 1210's with no slipmat or needles for that price.

I compared prices from about 6 recommended shops... if anyone is interested in seeing the comparison chart I'll post it.

I really don't think you can go wrong with either the Technics or Vestax turntables, mate.

It's bit like buying a Ferrari, and thinking "should I have bought the Lamborghini?", while your mate who's bought a Lamborghini is thinking "should I have bought the Ferrari?".

Have fun with em!

Almost forgot, here's some info on the Pioneer mixers if you're still considering them...

Pioneer DJM600 features
Pioneer DJM600 instruction manual (PDF)

Pioneer DJM500 features
Pioneer DJM500 instruction manual (PDF)

Don't forget the European DJM600s are black, like the DJM500 (well mine is).

Okies... thanks for all your input guys. This is what I've bought, I've added some comments for anyone else thinking to getting any equipment.:

2 x 1210 Mk3d's

Although the vestex may be the better deck in some respects I see the the 1210's as the VHS of the DJ World and the vestex as the Betamax. Betamax was the better system but could'nt topple the dominant VHS. My fear is that you can become reliant on certain traints of a deck and when you mix on other decks you can find that you struggle to pull off your mixing. 12XX seem to be the standard in clubland so heh

Got the Mk3's cause they are pretty much the same as the Mk2's except they have fixed a couple of issues that I'm told dog the Mk2's. The first issue was the close to 0 pitch control. I've been told that the Mk2 can have a habit of clicking back into 0 when your close with the pitch. The Mk3 has fixed this issue and enables you to lock the pitch. The second issue was with the on/off switch. Apparently, its pretty easy to switch the deck off mid-mix, this 2 has been fixed with the Mk3.

Sony MDR-V700 headphones

I got these cause I've not seen one bad comment about them yet. They seem to becoming the defacto standard for DJ's and they are currently outselling the Sennheiser ones.... what can I say.. I'm a sheep

Pioneer DJM500 Mixer

This was the toughest decision. No idea what to look for in a mixer and a lot of the information I got was directed to audiophiles which I'm not. I was very tempted by M Jaxx's mixer with the Korg fx built-in but heh. The 500 seems to be a well respected good all round mixer. I've been told that the x-fader can wear down pretty fast under scratching conditions but I'm not going to be scratching my rarer vinyl so heh. Vestex was the most recommended but some of the basic models are quite pricer.

I have links to quite a few shops with comparisons of prices but the best all rounder was http://www.sapphires.co.uk based in London. Certain items were cheaper elsewhere but on the whole it was quite good.

PM if you want my links.

Thanks for your help guys... it was much appreciated. Especially Mr Red Mancunian for the pdf that helped me decide
