Whilst this is definitely amazing and obviously takes a lot of skill and hard work, I have to say what's the point?

Why not just blow up a photo

That would just defeat the whole point of the artform though. I know absolutely nothing about it, but from what I've just seen I'd say the point is developing a really refined skill to be able to recreate something that looks real although its not. A photo would just be a photo.

lol ..this question comes up a lot of the time if i am honest Jonno.

and its a debate that has been going on since photorealism first came about in the late 60's early 70's, its one that will no doubt go on and on. Especially as there is a new genertaion of hyper / photoreal artists emerging.

for me the the camera should be considered an extension of our artistic tools the same as a paint brush or canvas etc... its also a tool that artists have been using for many many years, Da vinci used light boxes to aid his drawing, veermeer used the camera obscura etc.... There are some people who cant abide the use of the camera and photography in art and thats there opinion and they are entitled to that, as thats what art is about creating debate and making people think about art.

My thought process is a painting is a painting and a photo is a photo, both are made up of very different processes and both are visualized differently. you would be amazed at how people percieve things differently just because its a painting, if I was to show these images and say they was photographs they wouldnt be considered at all as art. However by reproducing them in paint it challenges the artists abilty and thought process, which is what art is about making the artist think and work things out.

in truth I do it because i love representational art,
lol ....it would be quicker to blow up a photo though and would save me 2 months painting, but then I wouldnt be paid for it !!!!

hey DeeDee
I was lucky enough to go see Ron Muecks exhibition he had at the national galery around 5 years ago, it was mind blowing ! his sculptures are so scary as there so real looking, but obviously the scale in some is just overwhelming. you really have to go see his work if he has another show in the UK.

also have a look at the hyper real sculptures of
Duane Hanson = his are mad as they fool you big time as he does figures like cleaners and security men, you end up going over and talking to them, then you feel really silly afterwardslol

John de andrea= nude hyper real sculptures in bronze, they look amazing as well.

Nice work Simmz you're a talented bloke shame you have to spoil it all by being a Villa fan...suppose we all have a cross to bear

nice pic of Brad Pitt

I take my hat off to anyone who is good at art, it's something i'm completely terrible at, so I admire people who can do it well even more
