Do nothing imo...i get them very occasionally...you just have to let them run their course..keeping them open to the air and resisting licking them will mean they last about 8 days...all products claiming to quicken/prevent them are appealing to peoples vanity as far as im concerned. Ed

Ooh cold sores are a right pain, I feel for you Sam. Fotuntaely I don't suffer with them but my brother and Dad do. I think they put Zorviracs on it, and they do have something from the dos but I'm not sure what it is. If I was you I'd go back to the docs and ask for something else. If you take an antihistamine it should bring the swelling down.

Not ever had one, but did some research, Im good like that Dont want to alarm you, and Im not implying owt either before owt gets said, but not only is it a form of the herpes virus, it can be brought on by various other things like: stress, sunlight, cold winds, tiredness, period pains etc. Maybe the good weather has brought it on...

Charming eh?!
bloody stress is the most likely culprit!! But yeah could be the weather?

herpes simplex virus type one usually causes oral herpes aka fever blisters.
herpes simplex virus type two usually causes genital herpes. yeah. those.

as some of you have experienced, zovirax often does not work on oral (fever) blisters -or at least from what i've been told and from what i have experienced; firsthand and witnessed.

i used to get them all the time when i was stressed out. now, not so much...every 6 mos - 1 year or so.

i keep valtrex (oral tablets) in my med closet. when i feel one coming on, i take 2 grams and then the next day i take more 2 grams. valtrex prevents it from happening or lessens the symptoms tremendously.

some people take valtrex every day, but most of those people are keeping their "down below" herpes from acting up.

valtrex is prescription only (from a chemist) over here, but it may not be in your superior land.

i pop mine with a clean needle and wipe up the shite with a tissue!!!
they dont even scab and are gone within the day
but sometimes you get those pesky buggers that pop up over night and are huuuuuge, these normally scab.
ive found that zovirax never works for me
