Very basic with shared bathrooms (never was a problem). They have a sister hotel also which is nearer Madison. It may be hotel 31 from memory.

hey Radish, I stayed at both of these hotels 17 and 31 ( could be 32 not sure )
not brilliant to be honest but cheap and cheerfull the one on 17th is very good location as union sq is ace, prob slightly better hotel as well however I would stay at them both again though as so cheap and you dont really spend any time in your hotel when in NYC

whatever you do stay away from Hotel pennslyvannia next to madison sq, I booked this and the actual bookin agents phoned me advising me to cancel it as they had so many complaints about it being infested with rats and cockroaches !!! offered me the holiday inn 54th st for cheaper and better

tho there are some decent ones..but i guess it's a matter of opinion. i once stayed in a place built in the 1930s with with hissing radiators and hallways that were unlevel from left to right....but the location was great and the staff was awesome.

i got what i paid for and i'd stay there again.

when i travel, all i need is a decent place to rest my head. i can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a room that i'll be in for only 7-8 hours.

here are a few to look into if you're all about budget and location:
New York budget hotel - Chelsea Star Hotel
Ye Olde Carlton Arms Hotel
Gershwin Hotel - New York

and i think i've stayed at hotel 17 a few years back as well.

like i said about vegas, i wouldn't go if someone paid me to go.

have fun, jig(gy wid it).

Jim. You really really need a dead big suit case.

About 6 foot long.

It will be heavy too.

About fourteen and a half stone.

Anyone fancy it?
That would be my trip of a lifetime! They are two places I'd really love to go but unfortunately at this moment in time my budget won't stretch to that Have a top time though matey

Ah ''FIRST MC (RAPPER) COKE LA ROCK (was one of herc's mc's along with the original KLARK KENT)''

So that explains the bit in South Bronx.....

''....... Now way back in the days when hip-hop began
With CoQue LaRock, Kool Herc, and then Bam
Beat boys ran to the latest jam
But when it got shot up they went home and said "Damn
There's got to be a better way to hear our music every day
Beat boys gettin blown away but comin outside anyway"
They tried again outside in Cedar Park
Power from a street light made the place dark
But yo, they didn't care, they turned it out
I know a few understand what I'm talkin about
Remember Bronx River rollin thick
With Kool DJ Red Alert and Chuck Chillout on the mix
When Afrika Islam was rockin the jams
And on the other side of town was a kid named Flash
Patterson and Millbrook projects
Casanova all over, ya couldn't stop it
The Nine Lives Crew, the Cypress Boys
The real Rock Steady takin out these toys
As odd as it looked, as wild as it seemed
I didn't hear a peep from a place called Queens
It was seventy-six, to 1980.........''

Always wondered who Coque La Rock was

when i did the hip hop tour grandmaster caz was the host, he told us it was him who sent the place the dark, powering his sound system, he blew the lights in the street lamp and caused a big power cut in the neighbourhood, legendary.

you also go to a few of the parks where the block parties happened and a few of the early venues like Harlem world, most are gone now though, but its ace to see where it all began.

you also stop off in Harlem for some propper soul food when we was there rahim from the furious five walked in for some food, he ended up getting back on the tour bus with us back to manhattan and him and grandmaster caz was freestyling together all the way back, was amazing, cant believe i didnt film it on my camera !!!!. got photos if anyone wants to see them ?
