Anyone a fan of aution houses?

Today i have got a great Edwardian tub chair that needs no restoration for £34. I love it, its oak and has great stripey material that looks lovely and, well, sat on loads i suppose. I also got a Vicotian swivel chair, only this needs more work as the leather seat is a little shagged- and i might have to do some rewaxing. This was a lucky buy at £85 as i would have gone much more- it was worth easy £300 when finished.

Jonno got a 'dead good' microphone for £12, which he is now wondering why he said.

Fingers crossed for this arvo- we are bidding on a large box of 80's board games and a massive collection of books that we want for the big double dictionary.

hey look at it this way... you're keeping it out of landfill a bit longer

I know what you mean though... it's the lure of finding an undiscovered faberge egg in amongst some old dear's box of bingo clink...

a lass I know was telling me recently about when the hairdressers she worked at got done out. They had a load of matching barbers chairs in there. They were ace, proper big heavy 1960s jobs with oil-filled stands and hydraulics to do all the tilt & height adjustment and stuff. I reckon if you could have got them cleaned up they'd be worth a fortune, but the builders just lobbed them in a skip.

I am not a collector of antiques by any strech of the imagination, and don't do it to make money as we never sell any of them. I just like buying things that i know very few other people will have, or simply becasue they are beautiful just to look at for whatever reason.

Its the whole thrill of being there too. Such great characters. Its a great way to spend an afternoon, sitting on a settee thats about to be sold, drinking tea and watching everyone buy crap

I used to love going to the auctions with my old boss and picking up old furniture wreckages and then make em good again.

I am a qualified Antique furniture restorer by trade with a City & Guilds in furniture crafts, this covers cabinet making, veneering and french polishing

Dont fucking phone me though if youve had a party and fucked up ya mums best antique! It has happened before just like the advert, i did end up getting a load of pills free for it though
