About 7-10 days before Christmas, when it should be!! I do not understand this obsession with wanting Christmas to start earlier every year. It just spoils it for me. .. . .It's not special by the time it arrives, because you have had all of November and December to get fed up with it!!

This was our tree from our old Victorian Town House in Chorlton (we had only just bought our first home which explains the sheet instead of a curtain!!!). Used to love getting a tall tree as we had high ceilings and sticking it in the bay window. . looked so traditional. Not quite the same in our modern house. Still get a real tree though.

Current decor meets most of Shooms requirements, but a few rules are stretched. Sorry Shooms, I do agree with you by the way.

Tinsel????

Tinsel has to be the most tackiest thing on a tree, red and green decorations on a tree just don't go together, don't care how much you wanna beef it up....it just doesn't work.

Nics will probably put her tree up on 12th January, as that's when the normal folk put their dead trees in the skip.

me too...to a certain extent. Trees i've had up on the past have been fairly plain / traditional. Usually red accesories and white lights, no tinsel etc..
dont really like the too OTT / too glitzy look
different if you have kids I suppose... spangly sparkliness is probably great in their eyes, but for grown ups I like it failry minimal

does look quite nice and exciting seeing prezzies under the tree though , I have to admit it also looks best next to a real fire..proper christmas card scene

dont mind stuff like holly / misletoe / candles dotted about the house, or a nativity scene etc...
some people go nuts decorating the outside of their gaff too, and it looks really tacky lol, i usually laugh at some of the outrageous ones you see when you're driving about God knows how much their leccy bills must be...as if the festive season doesnt cost you enough as it is!

i'm looking forward to Christmas this year

even got a good chunk of my shopping done so far
