Apparently the scratching and the pawing business they do is related to some technique they have as kittens for getting milk out of the mother...and when they do it as adults they are subconsciously comforting themselves. One of my cats used to paw and claw at everything. My mum put a noisy clock which made a loud ticking sound in the room where the cat usually slept, and it soon reduced the amount of clawing it did! (Something to do with the sound being reminiscent of the heartbeat of the mother cat?) Why not try that for a while? Some cats do generally tear things apart, but yours may just feel a bit threatened or anxious?

Got a problem here as the fucker is constantly clawing the leather sofa, its not so much of an issue as the sofa has had it anyway, but what is a problem is we just bought a new one from DFS which arrives in a few weeks and im very worried.

She hasn't yet had her injections and isnt allowed outside yet so im thinking the clawing may stop once she is going outside.

Does anyone know much about this or how to stop it?

Thanks

Buzz
dont know much about cats as i only have a dog but there similar (kinda) i would get it some toys to entertain it stop it getting bored failing that i would get a water pistol and every time it goes near the new sofa squirt it that should keep it away without hurting it or killing it!

A scratching post is a good idea but you need to make sure that when you catch the cat scratching the sofa that you shew it away and scare it (just making a noise that it doesn't like or spray it with water) into knowing it's not allowed to scratch the sofa!!

kicking them works ,

Remember that nursery rhyme " The was an old woman who swallowed a fly? "

Buy a mouse, a dog, a tiger, a elephant etc and just let the bigger one in when the smaller animal does wrong. It worked for me, I had a right job getting that fucking Blue Whale in the front room, when the elephant knocked over my Plasma I can tell ye.

Survival of the fittest.

cat o cat

you will find that once a cat likes sumwhere to sharpen its paws it will use it again and again as they are creatures of habit.and the only time they will change is when they find sumthing better.
best thing to do is lock it out the lounge and start to wein it to go out as soon as poss, and put an old tree stump in the garden(i kid you not). they love em. (you should see the one in my garden it s wrecked.) scratch posts fall over when the cat trys to stretch and sharpen. and will find sum where else namely your nice new settee.

This was like our cat, it was extremely hard to get her to stop scratching the bloody sofa. And she loved the apple tree in the front garden too. Although she bloody wrecked it and my stepdad went mad! oooops!!

cut the fookers legs off
or
put some citrus i.e lemon or lime juice around the afore mentioned area and that will stop the purring liity pussy in a jiffy
or
dont get a new couch
or
get a metal couch
or
dont let it in the lounge
or
put your couch outside till the cats had its injections and when it has bring the couch inside and bring the cat to the cat protection home and leave it there

hope ive been of some assistance
