having read trainspotting years ago and a few others by irvine welsh bought his book Porno a follow up to trainspotting at a car boot sale other week - decided to read it on my holiday jesus i couldnt put the book down - for anyone that loved trainspotting this is a class follow up 10 years later and how they all come in to contact again .... would really love to see the same characters do the parts - johnny lee millar aka sickboy ewan mcgregar aka mark renton robert carlisle aka begbie and spud murphy cant remember his real name - if they got all the original actors i reckon it would be a box office hit - i love the way irvine welsh uses the native leith accent in his book and for anyone that hasnt i suggest u give it a go as its really excellent reading

I adore Irvine Welsh's books

Porno is a good read, like to follow the characters such as Sickboy etc... like how they interlink in later books from differing previous books too, eg Glue..

the cover makes me laugh too

I have yet to read this, i have done a few other of Irvine's, and whilst i love the characters- i do find the Scottish style of writing hard work

top innit, Welsh; he gets slated for being a one trick pony abut i think he's a brilliant writer you really get an insight into the psyche of tthe characters he invents and you learn to like even the more obnoxious ones

I found it hard to get in the swing of it initially but once I was up and running I have to say I embraced it and loved it for being that way even more, think it really helps shape the whole feel of the book and boosts your imagination

Like the range of emotions Welsh can so easily convey through his writing too, and the reactions he inspires in the reader... funny, revolting, brutal honesty, anticipation, morbid curiosity, sadness, shock, etc..etc..

lol yeah that first chapter with him, in his prison cell where he has kept his cellmate up all night with his paranoid psychotic babbling..... and its like every night, the other poor sod probably aint slept in months.... made me proper laugh out loud

lol and when hes saying to himself about his cellmate trying to top himself twice since being in a cell with him as if hes an angel loooking after him hes wrong but so right one of the best moments in the trainspotting film is when begbie throws a glass over the bar and says which one of u c*nts threw that glass lol thats just a classic physco i always loved him

he's like a psychotic little terrier snapping at your heels..with a machete

brillaint character though, you even feel like you're on a knife edge / treading on eggshells just reading about him


thought Robert Carlyle played him really well in the film too

Yeah thats the one, he has a big worm growing inside him, page by page the worm gets bigger and bigger, and starts to tell its own story, It is illustrated in the middle of the pages, and gets that big that you have to read the book twice, because you have to read the worms story, separate to the cops story....realy mad, but well original
