Best letter i've read in a paper in a long time!

Well said that man

Locals residents are basically blaming the owners of a building on teesside, that it is their fault that the site is a target for vandals/arsons..consolidating the the attitude of people in todays society who refuse to take responsibility for there own actions, and that is is always someone elses fault. I thought this letter highlighted this fact well, in relation to children being raised to believe that such an attitude is acceptable, and that if for example someone was hurt causing a fire in a disused building, it would not be their fault, but the fault of the owners for not securing the site...hence openning a case for possible tainted cash via a compensation claim. Hit the nail right on the head for me. Ed

Aye it's true ed

When the culprits parents are made to pay for their kids wrongdoings, then they'll probably sit up and give a shit that their wayward kids actions are eating into their fag/booze/holiday etc money

When I were a kid (cue the Hovis theme tune), our parents used to bollock us at the slightest hint of trouble and god forbid if the police ever needed to come around

Well if parents today don't want to take responsibilty voluntarily, the law should force them with penalties that hit them where it hurts, their wallets

When a neighbours kid broke my car window, I threatened to press charges unless his dad offered to replace it and clean all the glass up. I've seen the lad since now he's a grown up and he's turned into a respectable person. Maybe it's partly due to me shifting responsibility towards his father

Spot on with what you say there Jim..EXACTLY right...the onus should be on the parents to enforce discipline, and as you say if their kids do cause damage, then they should pay for it. Its amazing to me how values have shifted so much in the space of about 20 years.

I completely agree with that letter, it's so refreshing to read something like that for a change. I'm so sick of this blame culture myself. Unfortunately it seems to be ingrained into our society. Kids know what they can get away with and don't seem to fear reprisals from their parents or police. For instance we were sat in our front room one night a while ago, and saw this young lad just walk up to Si Hill's car and drop a huge sandstone block from our wall on his bonnet!
Lucky we saw the little barsteward and managed to grab him before he got too far so Si managed to get the money back for the damage.

Hell yer....about time somthing like this has been noted. Personaly imo this all started to happen the minute the PC crew started getting there way, and took corparal punishment out of schools. I know when i did something wrong at school, i got the cane or slippered for it, and then when i got home i got it off my Dad too. Im not saying this is always the right thing to do, but the way things have gone over the past twenty years, the power seems to have swung more in favour of the children. My Mum works as a dinner lady at a primary school, and if a child hits another child, she is not alowed to grab that child, nor is she allowed to ask him/her why they hit that other child. She now has to say "Why did your hand hit that child?".....I mean for f@ck sake, what is this world coming to. Are the kids now in control, what next, are we gonna have 13 year olds running the contry

Think this song realy describes the state of the world today, and has a real good bit in it about this topic YouTube - Lazyb - Underwear Goes Inside The Pants
